LATW's Dramatization of 8, Featuring Brad Pitt, Kevin Bacon, et al. Hits the airwaves, 6/9

L.A. Theatre Works (LATW) has recorded “8,” a dramatization of the legal fight against California’s Proposition 8 written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) founding board member Dustin Lance Black, for release on audiobook and for broadcast on LATW’s nationally syndicated radio theater series. Directed by Rob Reiner and featuring an all-star cast that includes Kevin Bacon, George Clooney, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christine Lahti, Jane Lynch, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen and John C. Reilly, “8” will air on public radio stations across the U.S. during the week of June 9. ( more...)

The Press Association reports that Angelina Jolie has just been names a special envoy by the United Nations refugee agency. The film star, who was recently engaged to long-time partner Brad Pitt, has been promoted from being a goodwill ambassador to a role that will allow her to represent the UN at the diplomatic level to governments and diplomats. A one-night-only staged reading of 8, the play about the federal court trial contesting the Proposition 8 voter ban in 2008 on same sex marriage in California, will have its New Jersey premiere at Montclair State University on Saturday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium. 8 had its single-night Broadway premiere last September and its only West Coast performance in Los Angeles on March 3, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
