Eldar Djangirov Trio Returns Blue Note with Special Guest Pat Martino, 5/20-5/23

25 year-old pianist Eldar Djangirov will return to the Blue Note for the first time in three years with legendary guitarist Pat Martino. Eldar and Martino have been playing together frequently over the past year, both in quartet and duo settings. The pair initially teamed up in late 2009 for a tribute gig to guitar icon Les Paul at the Iridium in New York and later joined for the Lincoln Center "Generations in Jazz Festival" in 2010. Over the past months, they've been playing a mix of each other's originals and standards like "'Round Midnight" and "In Walked Bud." "Playing with Pat, you always have to be on your toes," Eldar told the San Diego Anthology. "This has been a great and very satisfying experience for me, and I think we'll keep playing together a few times each year." ( more...)

Broadway-bound THE NUTTY PROFESSOR to Kick Off In Music City USA

Nashvilles Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) will play host this summer to the world premiere of The Nutty Professor, a new musical comedy directed by the King of Comedy himself, Jerry Lewis. The Broadway at TPAC Special Event will run from July 24 to August 19 in TPACs James K. Polk Theater. Featuring music by Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) and a book and lyrics by three-time Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), The Nutty Professor is based on the classic 1963 film in which Lewis starred and co-wrote. As BroadwayWorld previously announced, Gerald Goehring, Michael F. Mitri and Dorothy Berloni are developing BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE, a new Broadway musical based on the popular 2000 novel by Kate DeCamillo. Casting for a developmental reading is currently underway and set to take place in early March.
