History Theatre has announced its 35th season, which will kick-off with the Minnesota premiere of the Broadway hit Lombardi by Eric Simonson. The show will feature Jim Detmar as Vince Lombardi and Norah Long as Marie Lombardi, and promises to be a funny and passionate look at an American icon. History Theatre will celebrate the holiday season with the return of Christmas of Swing featuring the talents of Ruthie Baker, Patty Nieman, and Stacy Lindell as Patty, LaVerne, and Maxine – The Andrews Sisters. Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch will be performing swinging standards at the legendary Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle Hotel every Sunday in June from 9pm – 12 midnight. The two performers, who have performed extensively on their own, gained national exposure together as the host and musical director of the open mic Cast Party, which celebrates talent every Monday at Birdland in NYC, and tours nationally. Formed by popular demand in 1956, the band has been touring consistently, playing an average of 300 live dates a year around the globe to millions of fans. Led by musical director Nick Hilscher, the band remains devoted to the Miller sound, interpreting such standards as “String of Pearls,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Little Brown Jug,” and, of course, “Pennsylvania 6-5000.” (more...)

For six weeks this summer, SWINGTIME SALUTE, An On-Deck Revue will re-create a touring variety show on deck of the Battleship Wisconsin in an evening of star-lit entertainment. SWINGTIME SALUTE performances will be held Thursday through Sunday evenings at 8:00 pm from May 31 through July 8. (more...)

The Denver Center Theatre Company announced its lineup of productions for the 2012/13. Artistic Director Kent Thompson continues the company’s tradition of presenting new work with two world premieres that were read as part of the 2012 Colorado New Play Summit as well as a family production. From an Alexandre Dumas classic to an August Wilson favorite and from an explosive Broadway hit to a one-man show. Says Kent Thompson, “Although I don’t pick seasons based upon a theme, 2012/13 is clearly about love and marriage – the thwarted love of Romeo and Juliet, the comic upset of discovering you’ve not been legally married for the past 25 years (!), the discovery that your dead husband may have loved another woman, and the hard-fought but lost love of D’Artagnan.” (more...)
