BWW Reviews: St. Louis Actors' Studio Presents Intruiging Production of THE SHAPE OF THINGS
by Chris Gibson - Feb 22, 2010

Controversial playwright/filmmaker Neil Labute has a unique talent for crafting works that deliver a solid sucker punch to the gut. I can appreciate that approach, and since I'm always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary, I made it a point to check out the St. Louis Actors' Studio production of THE SHAPE OF THINGS. Director Alec Wild's sharp direction combines with a well cast ensemble to bring this provocative and challenging piece to life at the Gaslight Theater. (more...)

St. Louis Actors' Studio Continues 'Love and Honor' Season with Neil Labute's THE SHAPE OF THINGS
by Chris Gibson - Feb 06, 2010

St. Louis Actors' Studio, continuing with its third season, examines the art of seduction with Neil LaBute's THE SHAPE OF THINGS. When nerdy college student Adam meets cool graduate art student Evelyn, he is instantly infatuated. As the relationship continues on, however, Evelyn's influence upon Adam changes him drastically. LaBute's disquieting story of seduction, manipulation, and loss of identity analyzes the sacrifices one will make for love. (more...)

A religiously devout man of conscience, More objected to King Henry VIII's break from the Catholic Church - a decision that led to his prosecution. (more...)

REVIEW: New Jewish Theatre Opens Season with CONVERSATIONS WITH MY FATHER
by Chris Gibson - Oct 02, 2009

CONVERSATIONS WITH MY FATHER is kind of a misnomer. The character of Eddie Ross (nee Goldberg) doesn't converse as much as harangue the people around him. But, don't take this as a knock on Herb Gardner's play; it's more of a clarification than anything. This isn't just the ramblings of a bitter old man, but an exploration of his particular experience immigrating to America, and trying to fit in by rejecting his Jewish heritage. (more...)

New Jewish Theatre Opens Season with CONVERSATIONS WITH MY FATHER September 30th
by BWW News Desk - Sep 30, 2009

The New Jewish Theatre opens its 'Bat Mitzvah Season' on Wednesday, September 30 with Herb Gardner's 1994 quasi-autobiographical classic about three generations of a Jewish family living on the lower East Side, CONVERSATIONS WITH MY FATHER. Gardner's play, a beautiful paean to the Jewish immigrant experience and father-son relationships explores the story of Eddie Ross (nee Itzhak Goldberg), a Russian immigrant who with his family, runs a Canal Street saloon. (more...)
