Bill Bowers' BEYOND WORDS to Kick Off 2013 soloNOVA Arts Festival, 5/22

terraNOVA COLLECTIVE and Producing Artistic Director, Jennifer Conley Darling, are pleased to present acclaimed mime, Bill Bowers' BEYOND WORDS, straight from a White House engagement to the west village: BEYOND WORDS will be a special headliner to kick off the 10TH Annual soloNOVA Arts Festival, the award-winning and longest-running solo performance festival in New York City, performing Wednesday May 22 at 8pm and Saturday May 25 at 2pm at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street, NYC). The eight other solo shows included in the soloNOVA Arts Festival will play two weeks only at IRT Theater (154 Christopher Street, inside the landmark Archive Building). Performances begin Thursday, May 23 and continue through Sunday, June 2. (more...)

United Solo Festival Invites Submissions For Its New Season

Local and international artists are invited to submit their shows to the world's largest solo theatre festival. Proposals may represent all varieties of solo performance, including storytelling, puppetry, dance, improv, stand-up, magic, drama, and others. Selected shows will be presented between October 3 and November 24, 2013 at Theatre Row in New York City. (more...)

VIDEO: GMCLA and Local Students Dedicate 'Peace on Earth' to Newtown

On the day following the tragedies in Newtown, CT, 46 students from the Creative Planet School of the Arts harmonized onstage with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. Together, they performed 'Peace on Earth' and 'Little Drummer Boy,' dedicating their performance to the families in Newtown and to everyone whose lives have forever been changed by violence. One hundred solo productions will be presented between October 11 and November 18, 2012, among them fifteen shows by artists who successfully performed at the United Solo Festival in the past. The second annual Black Box Festival, held in the Edith Bolte Kutz Theatre, begins today, November 1st with an act that brings an old world charm, filling the stage with lively stories based on the lives of two Irishmen blessed with the gift of gab. A Couple of Blaguards is a two-character comedy, created by the brothers Frank McCourt and Malachy McCourt, best known for their literary works Angela's Ashes and A Monk Swimming. The McCourt brothers tell the tale of their early lives in Ireland and their successful escape to America. (more...)

United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, doubled in size in the past three years. During the upcoming six?week run between October 11 and November 18, a variety of one hundred solo shows will perform at Theatre ROW on 42nd Street in New York. Performers come from all over the world, bringing stories in which they explore global and local issues, address universal dilemmas, and adapt classical literature in shows like "Medea's Got Some Issues," "The Picture of Dorian Gray," and "Vonnegut, Vonnegut."
