The owner of a failing jazz club seeks to save what her grandfather built, inspiring those around her to chase their dreams. Created by the ensemble, co-written by Colin Simson and Lindsay Nyman, co-directed by Greg Shane and Lindsay Nyman, and presented by CRE Outreach, Yesterday's will run April 18 through May 5 at the Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica. F#%KING UP EVERYTHING is described as an irreverent and energetic contemporary rock musical comedy with an old-fashioned boy-meets-girl love story. When these Brooklyn hipsters aren't true to who they are, they ruin everything. Especially children's puppeteer Christian Schwartzelberg when he meets singer-songwriter Juliana, the girl of his dreams (more...)

OEDIPUS REX XX/XY Opens 3/7 at La MaMa
by BWW News Desk - Mar 06, 2013

What happens when Oedipus is a woman and Jocasta is a man? Driven by the belief that what was traditional in 429 BC is radical today, The Faux-Real Theatre Company searches beyond the Freudian notions of "boy loves mom," and re-examines Oedipus the King with modern eyes and ancient techniques, uncovering the fearful truths and the (occasionally comedic) grotesque ironies that Sophocles presented audiences 2000 years prior to the birth of psychology. La MaMa & Faux-Real Theatre Co Present OEDIPUS REX XX/XY, Beginning 3/7
by BWW News Desk - Feb 11, 2013

Driven by the belief that what was traditional in 429 BC is radical today, FRTC performs Oedipus the King exactly as Sophocles intended… sort of. Men play all of the roles (including Love Interest/Mom Jocasta) just as the Greeks would have wanted it; only with Faux-Real, the role of Oedipus is played by a woman. Searching beyond the Freudian notions of "boy loves Mom," Faux-Real re-examines Oedipus with modern eyes (pun intended) and ancient techniques, to shed new light on this classic tale of sex, power, murder and the dark urges lurking inside of us all.
