Lucille Lortel Award nominee Susannah Perkins (Antigone, Broadway's Romeo and Juliet) and Tony Award nominee Benjamin Walker (All My Sons, American Psycho) have joined as regular cast members for the new Netflix series The God of the Woods.
In 1991, American Novelist Bret Easton Ellis published the highly controversial novel American Psycho. Through the story, we dive headfirst into a greed, lust, and ego-filled world told through the eyes of Patrick Bateman. A man so narcissistic, so label-driven, money hungry, and at the root of it all the depths of his humanity lie in a blood lust. Sure, he dates, he sleeps around, and is sometimes very graphic regarding his escapades, but at the root of his very being, he can’t feel. He shows no emotion, claims to never have fallen in love, and yet what is it that drives him?

Broadway, film, and television star Robert Lenzi (THE HAPPENING and THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL) is Patrick Bateman for this Houston run. He plays Patrick as an apex predator, but one that surprisingly gets lonely or feels isolated. There is not just the cold killer, but also a sense of what’s killing him.
To help kick off the fall season, Broadway fans can tune into a brand new lineup of movies, music, and television to stream this September, including Helluva Boss, The Office spin-off series, and more.

Mary Harron, director of the 2000 film American Psycho, is sharing her thoughts on the musical adaptation, explaining that humanizing the character of Patrick Bateman comes at the detriment of the story.
“Wolf Kings” is more performance art than a play. The snappy banter is often witty and funny. The vivacious movement is dance-like. There are elements that are peculiar, comedic, and dramatic. It condemns predatory behavior though spectacle by granting victims strength. Its thought-provoking message is cloaked and shrouded in unusual absurdity with a final scene that is oddly disconnected. “Wolf Kings” will prompt both post-performance discussion and a bit of head scratching because its narrative gets messy and a little lost along the way.
Now a stage musical, John Cassavetes’ 1977 film Opening Night was a commercial flop when it was released, later becoming something of a cult classic of American independent cinema. Director Ivo Van Hove specialises in bringing work to the stage that may be called “challenging”. Challenging can be hugely successful, but I’ve rarely seen a production more determined to confuse and frustrate an audience.
