MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET Plays Toronto Centre for the Arts, 7/10-29

On December 4, 1956, an auspicious twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley together. The place was Sun Records' storefront studio in Memphis. The man who made it happen was Sam Phillips, the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll," who discovered them all. The four young musicians united for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has come to be known as one of the greatest rock 'n' roll jam sessions of all time. ( more...)

BWW Breaking News: After 5 Years, Toronto Based Dancap Productions Says Farewell

It was announced today in a story by The Star's Richard Ouzounian that Aubrey Dan was no longer involved as producer in the upcoming Prince of Broadway, and that there were not plans for future Toronto shows beyond the 2012 Season. Dancap Productions has been producing commercial theatre in Toronto since 2007, when it exploded onto the scene with a strong freshman season. Shortly thereafter the company produced the Canadian production of Jersey Boys, which ran for two years and played to over two million people. Since Jersey Boys closed Dan has faced an uphill battle, and has made the decision that 2012 will be the company's final season. ( more...)

Memphis opened in Toronto this past Wednesday at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Hometown boy Sergio Trujillo came up from the Great White Way to celebrate with Dancap President Aubrey Dan and the Tony Award from when the show won Best Musical in 2010.
