Leila Benn Harris, Tommy Sherlock et al. Set for FROM UP HERE World Premiere, June 13-15

Perfect Pitch Musicals and South Hill Park have announced the world premiere production of new musical FROM UP HERE, which will play four performances from Wednesday 13 Friday 15 June 2012 at South Hill Park Arts Centre, featuring a West End cast including Leila Benn Harris, Tommy Sherlock, Russell Walker, Lisa Kerr and Tony Kemp. From Up Here has music and lyrics by Aaron Lee Lambert, and will be directed by Luke Sheppard with musical direction by Tom Attwood. Contemporary Art Gallery to Open Josephine Meckseper Exhibition Today

American Leg is Josephine Meckseper's first exhibition in Canada. For this site-specific work, Meckseper has created eight self-contained window treatments in the Contemporary Art Gallery's street-front vitrines. Originally intended for retail, these window spaces will serve as ready-made structures for Meckseper's ongoing investigation into consumer society and archaeology of the present. ( more...)

KPCC radio host and playwright/director Steve Julians 2012 Hollywood Fringe Festival play Altarcations is described as "pulling from real life stories to reveal the alarmingly darker nature of the church, its hypocrisy in shielding abusive priests, and the wisdom of redemption. Do we really need to see the Catholic churchs underbelly, especially when were inundated by new stories of priest abuse?" ( more...)

St. Bernard After-School Ballet Program Sets 2012 Spring Performance for 5/23

The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA), Chalmette Refining, L.L.C., and the St. Bernard Parish School Board invite the community to the 2012 Spring Performance, an Open House featuring the young dancers of the St. Bernard After-School Ballet Program. The free performance, to be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., will mark the culmination of 15 weeks of ballet instruction. ( more...)

Ellen Cherry Plays the Kennedy Center

Ellen Cherry is a full-time touring and working performer based in Baltimore, MD. She has licensed her music to the Oxygen Network, MTV, and Soap.net. In 2009, she wrote, recorded and performed a TV campaign for FOX Networks and also composed the score for a shadow puppet piece entitled "Alonzo's Lullaby", which has been awarded the prestigious UNIMA Citation of Excellence. She has been awarded Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards for Vocal Performance (2007) and Music Composition (2009) and founded her own studio and label, Wrong Size Shoes, in 2004. Boogaloo Stu's POP MAGIC! Set for 6/8-10 at Camden People's Theatre + Tour

Devised and hosted by flamboyant part-time pop-star, musical alchemist and veteran of the Duckie Collective Boogaloo Stu, Pop Magic! combines cabaret, pop music and audience participation with cutting-edge recording technologies and social network platforms. Audience members collectively write, record and produce their own pop single and video, featuring an assembled cast of participants performing a flashmob dance routine. Along the way, Stu reveals the modest but glittering highs and barrel-scraping lows of his own pop career. Pantochino's BROTHERS GRIMM AND A SHOWGIRL Continues into June

Connecticut's Pantochino Productions Inc will bring its popular musical, "The Brothers Grimm and a Showgirl" to the Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury for two performances this week, and at New Haven's Audubon Arts On the Edge festival sponsored by the Arts Council of Greater New Haven on Saturday, June 2nd. An abridged version of the show has been added to the company's touring roster and will begin appearing in Connecticut schools on May 30th. ( more...)

Silver Spring Stage presents The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh, directed and produced by Seth Ghitelman. Set in the Irish countryside, a lonely woman in her forties has her first and possibly last chance at love until her manipulative mother sets in motion a train of events that leads to a terrifying conclusion.The Beauty Queen of Leenane will perform weekends May 18 to June 9.

The Bronx Opera follows the famed mischievous brother and sister into Ilsenstein forest to meet the echoing trees, the little Sandman, the 14 angels of protection, the little Dew Fairy, and the evil witch and her tempting gingerbread house in this classic opera based on the famed Brother Grimm story. Filled with parables about family life and struggles that ring true today. The chorus for this production is made up almost entirely of children from RiverArts Childrens Chorus, part of the Rivertowns Arts Council in Hastings-on-Hudson. ( more...)

IAMA THEATRE COMPANY presents IAMAFest 2012 on Friday, May 18, 2012 - Sunday, June 10, 2012 (Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm; Sundays at 3pm) at The Working Stage Theater. IAMAFest is an festival of new one-acts and premieres, featuring both known, established talent and new, emerging voices. The five featured pieces in this years festival are CALL BACK by Neil LaBute (World Premiere); DRUNK by Bekah Brunstetter (West Coast Premiere); A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR THE LIVING by Charlotte Miller (World Premiere); THE FOUNDATION by Graham Sibley (World Premiere); and STORYTELLING by Stefanie Black (World Premiere). Stars Mike Vogel (THE HELP, CLOVERFIELD, PAN AM) and Emma Greenwell (SHAMELESS) join an ensemble cast of IAMA Theatre Company members and friends. ( more...)

Beck Center for the Arts presents the regional premiere of the award-winning rock musical, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, May 25 through July 1, 2012 in the Studio Theater.
