Esteemed American playwrights Frank Chin and Migdalia Cruz have been announced as the 2023 recipients of the Legacy Playwright Awards. 

The Segal Center Award for Civic Engagement in the Arts was originally established to recognise individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to civic discourse and have had a real impact on contemporary theatre and performance in New York City. In The Time of Corona, the Segal Center decided to honour global theatre and performance artists who have become agents of change in 2020 and 2021.

Since the outbreak of the Corona Pandemic, The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the Graduate Center, CUNY has presented a series of public talks during The Time of Corona with over 300 artists and institutions from over 50 countries. Anne Cattaneo, the highly acclaimed longtime dramaturg of Lincoln Center—and creator and head of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab—has written an engaging and revealing book, The Art of Dramaturgy, that enlightens readers as to the role of the dramaturg, with stories from her work with theater artists such as Tom Stoppard, Wendy Wasserstein, Robert Wilson, Shi-Zheng Chen, and Sarah Ruhl, as well as the discovery of a 'lost' play by Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston.

The 2020 Kesselring Prize for playwriting—a $25,000 award given annually to an outstanding playwright deserving of national recognition—is to be presented to Mona Mansour by The National Arts Club during a virtual ceremony on Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 PM.

The National Arts Club has selected Inda Craig-Galván for the 2019 Kesselring Prize for playwriting, for her tragicomic play Black Super Hero Magic Mama about a mother who magically turns into a super hero while mourning the shooting death of her unarmed teenage son by police. Craig-Galván officially receives the award, which includes $25,000 from the Club's Kesselring Fund and a residency at the historic clubhouse, during a special ceremony and reception. The evening features a staged reading of her work, directed by Michael Parva of The Directors Company, followed by a reception.
