Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announces William Shakespeare's Henry VIII, the first professional Chicago production in 400 years since its debut at Shakespeare's Globe in London. Staged by Artistic Director Barbara Gaines in CST's Courtyard Theater April 30-June 16, 2013, Henry VIII features a celebrated company of artists that includes Gregory Wooddell in the title role and Christina Pumariega as Anne Boleyn. The Acting Company features an ensemble of veteran CST actors which includes Kate Buddeke, David Darlow, Kevin Gudahl, Scott Jaeck, Ora Jones, David Lively and Mike Nussbaum. Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) presents Henry VIII, for the first time in CST's history, staged by the masterful hand of Artistic Director Barbara Gaines, whose vision provides audience members the opportunity to discover Shakespeare's unparalleled insight into the collective human condition. As the sordid tale unfolds of England's most opulent king-notorious for his habit of wedding and beheading-Anne Boleyn rises to power, Queen Katherine is ousted from her throne, and the political machinations and exploits of a king's reign are laid bare. Red Rose Chain to Take on Anne Boleyn and Tower of London in FALLEN IN LOVE, May 17-June 16

Leading Suffolk theatre company Red Rose Chain bring Fallen in Love, the story of Anne Boleyn's incestuous relationship with her brother to the site of Anne's trial, execution and final resting place, the Tower of London. This unique theatrical event runs from May 17 to June 16 and will be performed in the Banqueting Suite of the New Armouries. Written and directed by Red Rose Chain's founder and director, Joanna Carrick, this is a story of love, betrayal, jealousy and treason. (more...)

English Touring Theatre and NTG to Launch 2014 UK Revival Tour of Globe's IN EXTREMIS

The NTG has announced that its first tour will be Shakespeare's Globe Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Howard Brenton's In Extremis, the love story of Abelard and Heloise, which will play at venues across the UK in Spring 2014. In Extremis will reunite the original creative team (also responsible for Anne Boleyn) including director John Dove and designer Michael Taylor. First produced by the Globe in 2006, and revived thanks to popular acclaim in 2007, this retelling of the story of Abelard and Heloise received an initially limited run. (more...)

Following the huge successes of their collaboration on Tartuffe and The Hypochondriac, English Touring Theatre and Liverpool Playhouse complete a trilogy of Roger McGough adaptations of classic Molière comedies with The Misanthrope, which premieres today 19th February before a national tour. The 'McGoughière' team will reunite McGough with Everyman and Playhouse Artistic Director Gemma Bodinetz, who will direct this co-production with ETT. (more...)

Howard Brenton Returns Hampstead with the Premiere of #AIWW: THE ARREST OF AI WEIWEI

On April 3 2011, as he was boarding a flight to Taipei, the Chinese Artist Ai Weiwei was arrested at Beijing Airport. Advised merely that his travel "could damage state security" he was escorted to a van by officials, after which he disappeared for 81 days. On his release, the government claimed that his imprisonment related to tax evasion. (more...)

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) has announced six additional performances of Anne Boleyn through February 24. The U.S. premiere of Howard Brenton's revisionist spin on the life and legacy of Anne Boleyn, the notorious and ill-fated wife of Henry VIII, played to sold-out houses during preview performances, with less than a house worth of seats available for the regular run. The unprecedented early sales have necessitated an extension on opening night. (more...)
