Full Cast Announced for 1812 Productions' IT'S MY PARTY: THE WOMEN AND COMEDY PROJECT by BWW

Beginning in April, 2013, 1812 Productions will present the world premiere comedy It's My Party: The Women and Comedy Project, created and directed by 1812 Productions' Artistic Director, Jennifer Childs, and featuring a diverse ensemble of Philadelphia actresses. A production which will use physical comedy, storytelling, and music in a one-of-a-kind theatrical event, the creative process for It's My Party: The Women and Comedy Project began in 2010 with two questions: how do women use comedy and how does that usage change as they age. With these pointed inquiries as her guides, Ms. Childs embarked on three inclusive and ongoing initiatives which, together, would form the core of the Project. (more...)

American Theatre Wing Honored with NEA Grant to Support SpringboardNYC by BWW News Desk - Apr 23, 2013
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that the American Theatre Wing is one of 817 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The American Theatre Wing is recommended for a $20,000 grant to support SpringboardNYC, its summer boot camp that helps student actors make the transition from college to career, and Theatre Intern Group, a professional development group for young adults beginning careers in theatre administration and management. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal, TheatreSquared's first Broadway-scale musical, begins tonight, April 18 in downtown Fayetteville. Broadway veterans Rita Harvey and Rob Sutton-an Arkansas native-lead an all-star cast of professionals from around the country, directed by T2's own associate artistic director Amy Herzberg. A surprise sensation in its Broadway debut, Next to Normal is the story of a suburban mother fighting to keep her family together, and features a powerful contemporary score. (more...)

The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity presents Walden, a story-theatre style musical adaptation of Thoreau's best seller, featuring his work on the underground railroad and his star-crossed romance. Six performances for Walden will be held at the Robert Moss Theatre, 440 Lafayette Street, NYC from May 29-June 15 as part of The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. The Tony Awards have announced the line-up for the 3rd Annual Tony Awards Film Series, which will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at The Paley Center for Media. Dallas Theater Center announced today the upcoming production of Neil Simon's classic American comedy, The Odd Couple, directed by DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty. When two men with struggling relationships, neat and particular Felix Ungar and disheveled and rough-edged Oscar Madison, decide to live together, the results are funny and poignant. The Odd Couple opens with previews on Friday, March 15 and runs through Today, April 14 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in the AT&T Performing Arts Center. (more...)

On Monday, June 3 at 7:30pm at New York University's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, the 31st Annual Fred & Adele Astaire Awards will honor dance legend Marge Champion with its Douglas Watt Lifetime Achievement Award and Ted Chapin with a brand new award, Outstanding Achievement in the Preservation of Musical Theatre. The Astaire Awards is the only awards show to honor excellence in dance and choreography on Broadway and in film and were first started in 1982 by the late Fred Astaire and the late Douglas Watt (a critic and writer for the NY Daily News and The New Yorker). Know Theatre of Cincinnati Presents COCK, Opening 4/12 by BWW News Desk - Apr 08, 2013
Know Theatre has announced the regional premiere of COCK by Mike Bartlett as our next mainstage production. This will be only the second American production following its premiere at the Royal Court Theatre, London. COCK opens April 12, 2013 and runs through May 11, 2013. Brian Robertson, who currently teaches in the Theatre and Dance Department at Northern Kentucky University, will direct this production. Some of his past directing credits include Camelot at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center and A Flowering Tree at Cincinnati Opera. COCK features performances from Darnell Pierre Benjamin, Kevin Thornton, Danielle Knox, and George Alexander. (more...)
