Cincinnati Shakespeare Summer Camp 2012 Registration Closes This Week

Shakespeare Summer Camp is a one-week theater day camp for middle school and high school students who want to learn more about the art of theatre. Campers work with members of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Resident Ensemble (including Actor's Equity members), learning acting, stage combat, movement, and text analysis for the actor. This exciting camp has grown into a three-tiered program for students of all levels of experience. Hosted by Xavier University in the Gallagher Student Center, registration for 2012 closes this week. Broadway Across Canada and producers Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatrical Productions and Cameron Mackintosh announced today that tickets for the long-awaited production of MARY POPPINS will go on sale to the public on Monday, June 4 at 10 a.m. CalgaryÂ’s most eagerly awaited stage production will begin performances at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditoriumon Tuesday, July 31 for a limited engagement of one week through Sunday, August 5. Dee Dee Bridgewater's Birthday Celebration to Run 5/29-6/4 at Blue Note

Dee Dee Bridgewater has received the Tony Award; London theater's West End equivalent, the Laurence Olivier Award; France's top honor, the Victoire de la Musique; and garnered three Grammy Awards, the most recent for Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie with Love from Dee Dee (2010). Ms. Bridgewater celebrates her birthday May 27th by bringing her band back to the Blue Note the following week for the first time since 2010, featuring Edsel Gomez (piano), Craig Handy (saxophone), Kenny Phelps (drums), and Kenny Davis (bass). Tribeca Film Acquires North American Rights to THE COMEDY

Tribeca Film announced today that it has acquired all North American rights to THE COMEDY, director Rick AlversonÂ’s provocative character study, which is already one of the most talked about films since it bowed at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film also played South by Southwest and is set for BAMcinemaFEST this June, it will be released in October 2012. Jagjaguwar, the prominent independent music label known for artists such as Bon Iver and Sharon Van Etten, produced THE COMEDY in conjunction with Greyshack Films and Larry Fessenden's Glass Eye Pix, along with Mike S. Ryan and Brent Kunkle producing. Rough House Pictures, the Production Company of Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Jody Hill, and Matt Reilly attached themselves to the film during Sundance. Lainie Zazan, Michele Lee, Connie Stevens and Barbara Van Orden gathered at Barnes and Noble in California's The Grove to celebrate the release of Patty Farmer's new book “The Persian Room Presents.” Anecdotes involving audience celebrity sightings included Barbara Streisand (by Stevens), Milton Berle (by Van Orden), Jack Jones and his thighs (by Lee) and a mob king who struck her while performing (by Kazan). As part of the Partners in Preservation grant contest that has taken over New York City, Louis Armstrong House Museum had almost 1,000 people attend its Garden Party this past weekend on May 5 & 6. LAHM also hosted a student photo that included a 5Â’ 6" Louis Armstrong cutout of the Jazz legend in the Quad on the Queens College campus. (more...)

As part of the PartnersInPreservation.com grant contest sponsored by American Express and the National Historic Trust, Louis Armstrong House Museum will present the exclusive free film screening of Satchmo the Great on Saturday, May 12th at 8:00 pm in the Garden at Louis Armstrong House Museum.
