BWW Review: Burbage Theatre Company's Excellent HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WANDA JUNE
by Andria Tieman
- Jan 19, 2016
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WANDA JUNE is the only full length play by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., based on his novel of the same name. Like many Vonnegut works, it captures beautifully the absurdity of life, death and senseless violence all while making you laugh so hard you worry you'll hurt yourself. Burbage Theatre Company has taken this under-utilized gem and shined it up perfectly. Though the play takes place in 1970, it's shocking to note how well it holds up, especially when acted and directed so well.

BWW Review: Burbage Theatre Company Sings a Beautiful LOVE SONG
by Robert Barossi
- Aug 31, 2015
Plays, like anything else, come in all shapes and sizes. There are the extra-long, three hour epics. And there are the much shorter forms, such as one-acts, which can sometimes be just as epic. You can certainly craft an exceptional piece of drama in a short period of time, even something as short as ten minutes. On the other hand, some of these shorter works can feel like a story and a journey cut too short, leaving the audience wanting more, and such is the case with John Kolvenbach's Love Song, currently being presented by Burbage Theatre Company at Aurora Providence.
BWW Reviews: Welles and Olivier Battle in Burbage's Superb ORSON'S SHADOW
by David De Almo

Burbage Theatre Company is proving to be a gem of a small company. Last season's "The Liar" was one of the funnier, tighter, and most professional shows I saw all of last year, and this Spring's production of "Orson's Shadow" by Austin Pendleton is every bit as good. The show is the 2nd in a shortened, 3-play season BTC is staging at the Artists' Exchange in Cranston, bookended by the recently closed "Doctor Cerberus" and the about to open "The Bald Soprano," by Eugene Ionesco.
BWW Reviews: Epic Theatre Offers Intimate, Touching Slice of Life with THE GREAT GOD PAN
by Robert Barossi
- Mar 13, 2014
At one end of the theatrical spectrum are the big fantasies and storybook epics full of spectacle and wonder. aT the other, the small, intimate, realistic slice-of-life kind of plays. The latter are the plays that take us deep into the world of people just like us, real, breathing human beings with lives very similar to our own. It is this kind of play that Epic Theatre is bringing to the black box at Artists Exchange with their latest production, Amy Herzog's The Great God Pan.
