A 25th anniversary production of the imaginative, fractured-fairy tale musical “Into the Woods” by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim will be staged at the theater where Sondheim was an apprentice in 1950, Westport Country Playhouse, in Westport, CT, May 1 through May 26. Directed by Mark Lamos, the Playhouse’s artistic director, the musical will open the historic theater’s 82nd season. It is co-produced with Baltimore’s CENTERSTAGE. (more...)

THE LYONS comes to Broadway with its entire original cast: Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa along with Michael Esper, Kate Jennings Grant, Brenda Pressley and Gregory Wooddell. Pittsburgh Public Theater is set to present the Pittsburgh premiere of FreudÂ’s Last Session, Mark St. GermainÂ’s new play about an imagined meeting between outspoken atheist Sigmund Freud (David Wohl) and Christian writer C.S. Tony Award-nominated Michael Greif will direct this new musical by Sybille Pearson and Michael John LaChiusa. LYSISTRATA JONES, which caught on with many critics but not with audiences, will give its final performance on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 3:00pm at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th street). Upon closing, the musical will have played 34 previews and 30 performances.
