IN MASKS OUTRAGEOUS AND AUSTERE Ends Off-Broadway Run 5/13

Producers Victor Syrmis and Carl Rumbaugh, along with Culture Project, announced today that the World Premiere of In Masks Outrageous and Austere, the final full-length play by Tennessee Williams, will end its limited engagement following the matinee performance on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. The show, which began previews at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette Street) on April 6 and opened on Monday, April 16, will have played 9 preview performance and 28 regular performances. The Broadway play Red comes to Berkeley Repertory Theatre in March, staged as a valedictory by Obie Award-winner Les Waters as he departs the Bay Area to take the reins at Actors Theatre of Louisville. John Logan, the Oscar-nominated author of Aviator and Gladiator, won Tony and Drama Desk Awards for this feverish 90-minute drama. Now Waters and two exceptional actors bring this powerful play to local audiences. Red begins previews on the intimate Thrust Stage on March 16, opens March 22, and runs through April 29. (more...)

Producers Victor Syrmis, Carl Rumbaugh and Susan Batson, along with Culture Project (Allan Buchman, Artistic Director) today announced the complete cast and creative team for the World Premiere of In Masks Outrageous and Austere, the final full length play by Tennessee Williams, directed by David Schweizer. Performances will now begin on Friday, April 6, 2012 with an Opening Night set for Monday, April 16, 2012 at Culture Project at 45 Bleecker (at Lafayette Street). The production is scheduled to play through May 26, 2012. (more...)

There are certain authors whose shows I never miss if possible. Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Terrence McNally, and Howard Ashman to name just a few. These are people whose work I rank among my favorites for the richness and compassion in their writing. Well, after yet another stunning work such as “How to Write a New Book for the Bible”, currently playing at the Seattle Rep, I think I have another new favorite in Bill Cain. (more...)
