Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director) presents the world premiere of STOREFRONT CHURCH, written and directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner John Patrick Shanley and starring Bob Dishy, Giancarlo Esposito, Zach Grenier, Ron Cephas Jones and Tonya Pinkins.
STOREFRONT CHURCH will begin previews Wednesday, May 16; officially open Monday, June 11; and play a limited engagement through Sunday, June 24 Off-Broadway as the first production to return to AtlanticÂ’s main stage Linda Gross Theater in Chelsea following completion of a historic $8.3M renovation. Paper Mill Playhouse's DAMN YANKEES to Play The 5th Avenue Theatre, 4/21-5/20

Damn Yankees is headed to The 5th Avenue Theatre! This musical comedy is the story of an aging baseball fan who makes a deal with the Devil so his beloved hometown team can beat the Yankees in the race for the pennant. From the songwriting team of The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees is filled with hit songs including “Two Lost Souls” and the sultry favorite, “Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets.” The Paper Mill Playhouse production will slide into Seattle this April. The creative team includes direction by Mark S. Hoebee (Paper Mill’s Producing Artistic Director), music direction by Ben Whiteley, and choreography by Denis Michael Jones. ( more...)

2012 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awardees Announced

Two-time Tony Award nominated costume designer Carrie Robbins, and scenic, lighting, costume designer and educator Lloyd Burlingame are among the 2012 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 4, at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Ms. Robbins was selected to receive the 2012 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design, and Mr. Burlingame will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. ( more...)

Paper Mill Playhouse is currently in rehearsals for Damn Yankees, directed by Paper Mill Playhouse's Producing Artistic Director, Mark S. Hoebee, with choreography by Denis Jones. The cast features Howard McGillin (Applegate), Chryssie Whitehead (Lola), Christopher Charles Wood (Joe Hardy), Joseph Kolinski (Joe Boyd), Patti Cohenour (Meg Boyd) and Nancy Anderson (Gloria Thorpe). Damn Yankees begins performances on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, and runs at the Millburn, New Jersey theater through Sunday, April 1, 2012. Opening night is scheduled for Sunday, March 11, 2012.

Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for the Alley TheatreÂ’s new production of the large scale classic, The Seagull, in the AlleyÂ’s intimate Neuhaus Stage. Alley Company member James Black takes on Boris Trigorin, the writer and lover of actress Irina Arkadina, who is played by Alley favorite Jose de Guzman. Making their Alley debuts are Karl Glusman, playing Irina ArkadinaÂ’s son Konstantin Treplev, and Erica Lutz, playing Nina, his love interest. ( more...)

BWW Reviews: Rep's Dazzling and Intense Production of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE

SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE is a fascinating and visually dazzling examination of painter Georges Seurat and his unique style, which art books call pointillism. Stephen Sondheim has crafted an entertaining score, but it was at the suggestion of book writer, James Lapine, that this artful and delightful production actually came together. While viewing his masterpiece, “A Sunday afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte”, Lapine remarked that the only thing missing was the painter himself, and so we're blessed with this visually arresting musical recreation of that moment in time. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has conjured up a superb rendering, filled with sharp performances and a pair of tableaus, one at the end of each act, that are breathtaking in their beauty.
