Award-winning Mosaic Theatre continues its tradition of staging thought-provoking dramatic work with its production of "The Edge of Our Bodies” by celebrated author Adam Rapp, the fifth and final show of Mosaic’s landmark Eleventh Anniversary Season. Over the past year, Mosaic has staged some of the most memorable moments in theatre, including its sold-out production of Eric Simonson’s hit play “Lombardi” and most recently, Mosaic’s critically acclaimed World Premiere production of “A Measure of Cruelty” by Joe Calarco. As its season finale, Mosaic brings to the stage “The Edge of Our Bodies,” a major hit at the 2011 Humana Festival.

Mosaic Theatre Announces Winners In STOP! THE VIOLENCE Video Contest

Mosaic Theatre received numerous contest entries from area high schools, and finalists were chosen based on votes cast by Facebook friends and by a panel of celebrity judges including: Brett Loewenstern (semifinalist, American Idol Season 10), Emmy Award Winner Louis Aguirre (of WSVN’s Deco Drive), and award-winning playwright Joe Calarco. The finalist videos were shown to audiences attending the World Premiere of Calarco’s acclaimed play “A Measure of Cruelty” which ran for four weeks at Mosaic Theatre and garnered significant critical praise. During its run, audience members were invited to vote for their favorite student video.

The Amoralists have announced the World Premiere of The Bad and the Better, written by Derek Ahonen, directed by Obie Award winner Daniel Aukin and featuring The Amoralists acting ensemble. The acclaimed downtown theater company moves uptown for a 6-week Off-Broadway run from June 14 – July 21, 2012 at The Peter Jay Sharp Theater, located at 416 West 42 Street between 9 and 10 Avenues in New York City. The Flea Theater presents an encore production of THESE SEVEN SICKNESSES, a 5-hour marathon of all seven of SophoclesÂ’ plays re-envisioned by playwright Sean Graney. Directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar (a 2012 Drama Desk Award nominee for Outstanding Director -- in his professional directing debut in NYC), the production stars 38 members of The Bats. Anthony Rapp's WITHOUT YOU Gets Menier Chocolate Factory Production this August

In 1994 Anthony Rapp was working at a Starbucks and about to audition for Rent a new musical by a young guy named Jonathan Larson. An inspiring story about friends and artists struggling in New York’s Lower East Side, it was based loosely on Puccini’s La Bohème. Anthony got the part, but Jonathan died suddenly the night before the musical’s off-Broadway premiere. ( more...)

Broadway's ONCE Cast Member Lucas Papaelias Joins Theatre For The New City's 17th Annual Lower East Side (LES) Festival of The Arts, 5/25 - 5/27

Lucas Papaelias, of Broadway’s ONCE is set to join the line up of the previously announced 17th annual LOWER EAST SIDE (LES) FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS. Papaelias is also known as LPfunK and is an actor/guitarist/composer who was nominated for a Drama Desk Award (Best Original Music in a Play) for his work in Adam Rapp's “Essential Self-Defense” at Playwrights Horizons. Most recently, he co-wrote the rock musical PYRAMIDICA: Songs of Freedom, which takes place live in a pyramid scheme company's “free” orientation, and was presented at the Vineyard Arts Project’s New Writers / New Plays Festival. He also conceived of, and composed, the rock opera ITHACA: a Perpetual Shredfest, the story of a Lower East Side rock band performing their final concert, which had presentations at Joe’s Pub and ARS Nova.
