Gamm Theatre's Executive Director to Take Sabbatical, 7/1-12/31

David M. Wax, President of the Board of Directors of The Sandra Fenstein-Gamm Theatre, has announced a sabbatical for Executive Director Yvonne Seggerman from July 1 through December 31, 2012, during which he will serve as the organization's acting executive director. ( more...)

Actors Equity Association (Equity), the Union which represents more than 49,000 working stage actors and stage managers nationwide, today announced the election results for the 8 officers and 17 National Council seats. Nick Wyman, Paige Price, Rebecca Kim Jordan, Ira Mont and Sandra Karas ran uncontested for the offices of President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer, respectively. The Colony Theatre Company has announced its 2012 2013 season of shows. In this, its 38th season, the multi-Ovation Award-winning theatre company, for the first time in its history, will be bringing its subscribers and audiences six World, West Coast or Los Angeles premiere shows. The season includes a world premiere musical that looks at the life of lyricist Lorenz Hart - to a smack-down of biblical proportions in Savannah, Georgia; From a Hitchcock-ian style thriller to a behind-the-scenes look at a non-profit theatre; throw in a legendary Stradivarius violin and some Fiestaware and you have one of the company's most exciting seasons ever. Actors' Equity Releases Statement on Spiegelworld Controversy

As BroadwayWord reported yesterday, Local One of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) put on its largest demonstration in the theater district since the Great Broadway Strike of 2007 when hundreds of union stage technicians and union supporters took to the line on West 45th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue on Tuesday, May 22, to protest the use of non-union lighting and audio technicians on the non-union tent show, Spiegelworld's "Empire New York."

Mind The Gap Theatre Presents 'DEUTERANOMALY', 5/30-6/24

Mind The Gap Theatre will present Jessica Fleitmans comedy Deuteranomaly: A One-Act in Two Parts as part of the 4th Annual Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. The production will be directed by Mind The Gaps Artistic Director, Paula DAlessandris (Under The Blue Sky at The Kraine; The Cleric at 59E59). Barksdale Theatre and Theatre IV Merge to Form Virginia Repertory Theatre

Barksdale Theatre and Theatre IV announce that the two nonprofit theaters will formally merge effective July 1, 2012 under a new name - Virginia Repertory Theatre (Virginia Rep). With a budget exceeding $5 million, four distinct venues, and an annual audience over 550,000, Virginia Rep will become the largest professional theater and one of the largest performing arts organizations in Central Virginia along with the Richmond Ballet, Richmond Symphony, and the Virginia Opera. Barksdale and Theatre IV celebrated the announcement and the unveiling of the new Virginia Rep sign today, May 20, at the November Theatre (formerly the Empire Theatre) at 114 West Broad Street at 4:00 p.m. after the closing of Seussical, thelast mainstage childrens production under the Theatre IV name. Michelle DeJean, Michael Tapley to Lead TUTS' BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) just announced the cast of The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, running June 5 17 at the Hobby Center for The Performing Arts. Its all big songs and big hair in this sassy, spirited musical about a real-life brothel in Texas. Based on the Chicken Ranch, the infamous, long-running house of ill repute, this tongue-in-cheek story chronicles Miss Mona Stangley, a classy yet brassy madam with a heart of gold, as her business becomes the center of a media controversy. Thrusting the Chicken Ranch into the spotlight is Melvin P. Thorpe, a loud-mouthed reporter based on Houstons own late Marvin Zindler. Spicing up the story line is a hot-headed, trigger-happy town sheriff, the Texas A&M football team, and Miss Monas risqué girls. The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas will be a feisty, fun-filled treat that includes favorites such as A Lil' Ole Bitty Pissant Country Place and Hard Candy Christmas. ( more...)
