Seth Meyers

BIO

While a student at Northwestern University, Seth Meyers performed with the improv group the Mee-Ow Show. He later trained at ImprovOlympic with the group Preponderate and performed internationally with the Amsterdam-based English-language troupe Boom Chicago. After a Boom Chicago production transferred to Chicago, he was scouted and invited to audition for Saturday Night Live.

Meyers joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001. He became writing supervisor in 2005 and co-head writer in 2006, sharing the role with Tina Fey and Harper Steele, before serving as head writer for the 2006–2007 season. He became co-anchor of “Weekend Update” with Amy Poehler in 2006 and served as solo anchor from 2008 to 2013. He also co-anchored Weekend Update Thursday in 2009 and was joined by Cecily Strong during the 2013–2014 season. Meyers wrote and performed in numerous sketches and impersonations throughout his tenure and supported the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007–2008. He departed SNL in February 2014 and returned to host the show in 2018.
In 2013, NBC announced Meyers would succeed Jimmy Fallon as host of Late Night. He began hosting Late Night with Seth Meyers on February 24, 2014. Fred Armisen became bandleader for the house band, The 8G Band. Meyers later signed an overall production deal with NBCUniversal through his company, Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions.
Outside of television hosting, Meyers won Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown in 2004 and donated the prize money to charity. He co-wrote the comic The Short Halloween (2009) with Bill Hader. With Mike Shoemaker, he co-created the animated Hulu series The Awesomes, which premiered in 2013. He co-hosts the podcast Family Trips with the Meyers Brothers, launched in 2023, participated in the comedy podcast Strike Force Five in 2023, and co-hosts The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast.
Meyers has also hosted several awards programs and events, including the Webby Awards (2008, 2009), the ESPY Awards (2010, 2011), the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner (2011), the Primetime Emmy Awards (2014), and the Golden Globe Awards (2018).
