Marc Shaiman has released a new music video for his song a?oeGod Save The Citya?? from the 1970's musical Dementos. It was originally written as an ode to the homeless and marginalized and later offered some light during the AIDS crisis. As you listen to the lyrics, you will understand why it's also the perfect anthem for today's trying times during the COVID-19 crisis.

La Mama will present Ellen Foley and Robert I Rubinsky's CLUB DADA (IN DIFFICULT TIMES): an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza with a sprinkle of bad taste, bawdy and not so bawdy humor mixed with Sympatico pathos and surrealistic bathos as two ancient vaudevillians try to hide their show biz scars - slaves to wounded egos, age and outside forces.

Internationally renowned actor, writer, singer, producer, and director Ray Shell recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express with a live Q&A and performance at Spoonfed New York Country. Ray originated the lead role of 'Rusty' in the show's West End production.

KC Rep is proud to present this concert documentary event! Directed by KC Rep's Artistic Director Eric Rosen, the musical that defined a generation and brought rock music to the theatrical stage, HAIR: Retrospection captures the essence of the revolution and passion of the 1960s. In addition to its legendary score, this production features original Broadway artists, and continues KC Rep's tradition of reimagining the classic musical. Come experience it at KC Rep! 

The rock musical Hair has been produced many times over the years in Kansas City, but never has it been presented the way the Kansas City Repertory Theatre brought it to the Spencer Theatre on opening night March 27. Artistic Director Eric Rosen directs Hair: Retrospective, which runs through April 12 at the theater on the University of Missouri at Kansas City campus. The retrospective may actually be more enjoyable than the musical itself, (not just my opinion, heard from audience members also).

Performances begin tonight, Friday, March 20 and run through Sunday, April 12. Press night is scheduled for Opening Night Friday, March 27. Appropriate for ages 17 +. As a concert production, there will be no live nudity, though documentary photographs of the original production will be projected.

Monday, January 23 was the Aquarius New Moon AND Chinese New Year (year of the Dragon) - it was also the 80th birthday of one of our national treasures - James Rado - co-author of the legendary musical HAIR. Rado celebrated this milestone at The Copacabana, with a crowd of over 125 - family and friends - including original Broadway HAIR cast members - Natalie Mosco, Marjorie LiPari, Robert I. Rubinsky (aka Bobby The Middle-Aged Celebrity); HAIR alumni including Heather MacRae, André De Shields, Ula Hedwig, Zora Rasmussen, Dale Soules. Other guests included Luther Creek (SPIDER-MAN, 25th Anniversary tour of HAIR, RENT) who performed excerpts from Rado's latest musical AMERICAN SOLDIER (written with brother Ted Rado) at the party along with Rosalind Brown, A.D. Coughlan, Ula Hedwig, Sean Jenness, Marjorie LiPari, Michael Lynch, Natalie Mosco, Cheryl Pepsii Riley, Gordon Ramsey, Robert I. Rubinsky, Sam Underwood and Alex York.
