BWW Review: Strong Performances Ensure Success of Circle Players' IF/THEN

by Jeffrey Ellis — Apr 2, 2019

What if? For many, their lives are filled with the search for answers to the questions that tend to keep people awake in the middle of the night, wondering if they'd made another choice how their lives would have been impacted and, more importantly, where they might find themselves instead of lying awake in a cloistered apartment, cut off from adventure and intrigue, living a life largely unexamined until 3 a.m.

BWW Review: Circle Players' AVENUE Q Ushers in 2019 With Fast-Paced Hilarity

by Jeffrey Ellis — Jan 17, 2019

For legions of musical theater fans brought up on daily trips to Sesame Street, thanks to the fine folks at Children's Television Workshop, there is quite possibly no show more beloved than Avenue Q - the grown-up version of the kind of programming directed at children in hopes of helping them navigate the vagaries of childhood and adolescence. To be certain, Avenue Q is not for the easily offended or politically conservative, but the Tony Award-winning best musical of the 2004 Broadway season is an ideal outing for anyone with a highly developed sense of humor and a fondness for pushing the envelope, musical theatre-wise.

Square Product Theatre Returns With New Offerings In 2019

by A.A. Cristi — Dec 4, 2018

After a 16-month hiatus from full production, Boulder-based square product theatre returns in the New Year, with plans for two productions, including the Regional Premiere of London, UK-based theatre-maker Greg Wohead's "Celebration, Florida," and the World Premiere of "Everything was Stolen. ," an original work developed in London, UK by Emily K. Harrison, square product theatre producing artistic director.   Featuring two performers who have never met, "Celebration, Florida" is a quietly surreal show for anyone who has ever missed anyone or anything. Veering between reality and simulation, the piece orbits around ideas of surrogacy; a stand-in to replace a person you miss, a re-creation of an experience you can't stop thinking about, nostalgia for a place that perhaps never existed. Greg will speak to the audience through two performers using pre-recorded audio and headphones. They will know almost nothing about the show when they walk onstage.
