My expectations for the premiere of MIDWESTERN GOTHIC at Signature Theatre were so high that the musical itself was bound to fall short, no matter what. Billed as a darkly funny thriller, it's got atmosphere in spades and boasts laudable performances from a cast of committed actors. But that isn't enough to keep the whole affair from feeling like an interesting concept still in search of a form.

Directed and choreographed by Signature Theatre Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner (Jelly's Last Jam, West Side Story), this new musical thriller features music, lyrics and orchestrations by Josh Schmidt (Off-Broadway's Adding Machine) and book and lyrics by Royce Vavrek (Dog Days, 27). Signature Theatre has announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere production of Midwestern Gothic. Midwestern Gothic will run March 14 - April 30 in Signature Theatre's ARK Theatre.

Celebrating the release of the original Broadway Cast Recording of TUCK EVERLASTING, cast members Andrew Keenan Bolger, Michael Parkand Michael Wartella joined composer Chris Miller, lyricist Nathan Tysen and co-bookwriter Tim Federle for a three-song performance, discussion and signing at the Barnes and Noble at 86th & Lexington Ave (150 East 86th Street, New York, NY 10028) earlier this month.
