Theatre for a New Audience Announces First and Final Extension of FEFU AND HER FRIENDS

Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA, Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) is pleased to announce a first and final extension of Fefu and Her Friends, one of the most beloved plays of the late, nine-time Obie Award-winning Cuban-American playwright and director María Irene Fornés, 'arguably the most influential American dramatist whose work hasn't become a staple of the mainstream repertoire' (LA Times). Lileana Blain-Cruz, winner of two Obie Awards (Suzan-Lori Parks' The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World and Jackie Sibblies Drury's Marys Seacole) stages the play in her TFANA directing debut, the first Off-Broadway revival of Fefu and Her Friends since American Place Theatre's 1978 staging. Fefu now plays on the Samuel H. Scripps Mainstage at TFANA's home, Polonsky Shakespeare Center (262 Ashland Place, Brooklyn), through December 12, 2019, with four performances added Tuesday, December 10 at 7:30pm, Wednesday, December 11 at 2pm and 7:30pm, Thursday, December 12 at 7:30pm.

The sessions are designed to be accessible to anyone with a curiosity about current issues facing Puerto Rico, and to encourage group dialogue around each topic facilitated by leading thinkers and community activists. Today PlayCo also announces that Maria Cellario has stepped down from the production, and that OBIE-winning actress Mia Katigbak will assume the role of Olga, which she played to acclaim at the 2017 Humana Festival for New American Plays.

The Debate Society's BLOOD PLAY Runs 10/3-10/27

For their 7th full-length work, The Debate Society has created a darkly comic thriller of post-war verve and pre-adolescent disquiet. Blood Play is set in the tranquil Chicago suburb of Skokie in the early 1950's. While the kids are away on a camping trip with their Jr. Cherokee's Troop, a string of coincidences yields a spontaneous grown-up party. In the basement of a brand-new ranch house, exotic cocktails like 'Rapupu Sours' are sampled, games like 'Bee Pee Bo' are played and new friends like Jeep, the door-to-door photographer, are made. What an unforgettable night this is to be! BUT things are happening that no one is talking about. And something is stirring underground.
