BIO

On the big screen, Mary appeared opposite George Clooney in Alexander Payne’s Academy Award-winning film “The Descendants,” and you can see her this summer in "Percy Jackson 2: Sea of Monsters", alongside Missi Pyle & Yvette Nicole Brown. On the small screen Mary is best known as Deputy Kimball on Comedy Central’s “Reno 911,” as a special correspondent for The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart, and as “Mel Bernstein” on Disney XD’s hit show Crash and Bernstein. On stage, Mary appeared as Mona Ramsey in the rock musical of Armisted Maupin’s “Tales of the City” at A.C.T./American Conservatory Theater (with a score by The Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears and John Garden). And in 2012, A.C.T. awarded Mary with an honorary masters degree in acting. On Broadway, Mary won a Theatre World Award for her debut in the hit musical "Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me!," and also starred as Velma Von Tussle opposite George Wendt in “Hairspray.” Off-Broadway, Birdsong appeared opposite Jane Lynch in “Love, Loss and What I Wore” by Nora & Delia Ephron, with Danny Aiello as entrepreneurial porn star Vixen Fox in "Adult Entertainment" (don’t get the wrong idea—it was written by Elaine May), and as Judy Garland in her biographical one-woman musical triumph-- "Judy Speaks" (written by Birdsong). Other one-woman shows penned by Birdsong include her Sedaris-style family tell-all “3 Days In the Tub: A Mama Drama,” at Joe’s Pub (directed & co-created by Eric Gilliland). A published author, Birdsong’s writing most recently appeared in “Dirty Laundry: Real Life. Real Stories. Real Funny.”— a book of humorous, confessional short stories. Some fans may be familiar with the music of her rock band and soon-to-be movie, “99 Cent Whore.” Any questions? www.marybirdsong.com

BWW Review: The Game's Afoot with West Coast Premiere of CLUE in La Mirada

Based on the well-known board game distributed in North America by Parker Brothers (which was later folded into toy and game manufacturer Hasbro) that itself inspired a cult 1985 Paramount Pictures film of the same name written and directed by Jonathan Lynn, CLUE--the stage play--features the same infamous names and, yes, weapons and rooms synonymous with the classic whodunnit game. Writer Sandy Rustin, along with additional writers Hunter Foster and Eric Price, have revived the same colorful characters and personalities of the film and have transposed them into a madcap, 90-minute puzzle that's mostly silly and engagingly fun. The comedy's West Coast Premiere production continues at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts through October 17, 2021.
