Brian Thomson BIO

Born and educated in Sydney, Australia Brian studied architecture before venturing into theatre design. He was invited to London to design Jesus Christ Superstar at the Palace Theatre then designed the original productions of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the cult movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show before returning to Sydney as Associate Director of the Sydney Theatre Company. For Broadway he designed The King and I (Tony Award) and Dame Edna Back With A Vengeance. He designed the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games closing Ceremony, designs the Sydney New Years Eve Bridge Effect and was awarded an Order Of Australia (AM) in 2005.

Priscilla the Party is based on The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, a movie from the 90s that was adapted into a musical and has since travelled the world. But, instead of a classic musical, guests are invited into the Cockatoo Club, standing in front of the stage that is able to be taken apart and moved around the floor.

STARSTRUCK - The Stage Musical Comes to NIDA


Garry McQuinn and NIDA (Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art) have announced a collaborative partnership to produce the musical STARSTRUCK. Both organisations are keen to support the development of new Australian musicals: NIDA assisted as a platform to workshop the draft material in 2018 with students engaged with industry practitioners in a studio presentation. Following further development from writer Mitchell Butel and Hilary Bell, the piece will be realised under the direction of Kim Hardwick as a fully-staged performance as part of the NIDA October 2019 Season of Student Productions, co-produced with Garry's company RGM Productions in association with Palm Beach Pictures.
