Brian Denis Cox (born June 1, 1946) is a Scottish actor whose career spans theater, film, and television. A classically trained Shakespearean performer, he has earned two Laurence Olivier Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award, alongside two British Academy Television Award nominations.

Brian Denis Cox (born June 1, 1946) is a Scottish actor whose career spans theater, film, and television. A classically trained Shakespearean performer, he has earned two Laurence Olivier Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award, alongside two British Academy Television Award nominations. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2003.
Cox began his theatrical career at Dundee Repertory Theatre before becoming a founding member of the Royal Lyceum Theatre. He subsequently performed with the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company, earning recognition for his portrayal of King Lear. He won Olivier Awards for Rat in the Skull (1984) and Titus Andronicus (1988), with additional nominations for Misalliance (1986) and Fashion (1988).
His film work includes Manhunter (1986), Iron Will (1994), Braveheart (1995), The Boxer (1997), The Rookie (2002), Troy (2004), Match Point (2005), Coriolanus (2011), Pixels (2015), and Churchill (2017). He also portrayed Robert McKee in Adaptation (2002) and William Stryker in X2 (2003), while his performance in L.I.E. (2001) earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination.
On television, Cox won an Emmy for portraying Hermann Göring in Nuremberg and received another nomination for his guest appearance on Frasier. He also played Jack Langrishe in HBO’s Deadwood. From 2018 to 2023, he starred as Logan Roy in HBO’s Succession, earning a Golden Globe and three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
