Bobby Cannavale is an American actor whose career spans film, television, theater and voice work. He began his acting career in theater without formal acting training before making early film appearances in Night Falls on Manhattan (1996), Gloria (1999) and The Bone Collector (1999). He gained recognition for his role as Roberto Caffey on Third Watch, appearing in 38 episodes from 1999 to 2001. His early television credits also included Sex and the City, 100 Centre Street, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Ally McBeal, Kingpin, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Oz and Six Feet Under.
Cannavale became particularly known for his role as Vince D'Angelo on Will & Grace, appearing from 2004 to 2006 and again in 2018. The performance earned him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 2005. A prominent stage actor, Cannavale made his theater debut in The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 1998. His Off-Broadway credits include F*CKing A, Hurlyburly, Trust, White Rabbit Red Rabbit and The Hairy Ape, while his Broadway credits include Mauritius, The MotherF*CKer with the Hat, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Big Knife, The Lifespan of a Fact and Art. He also appeared as Lucas in Medea at BAM in 2020 and as Leo Brink in the Off-Broadway production of Here We Are at The Shed in 2023.
Cannavale received Tony Award nominations for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Mauritius in 2008 and Best Leading Actor in a Play for The MotherF*CKer with the Hat in 2011. He won the 2011 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for The MotherF*CKer with the Hat and was nominated again for The Hairy Ape in 2017. His other honors include a Gotham Award nomination for Breakthrough Actor for The Station Agent, a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination as part of the cast of The Station Agent, and additional SAG nominations for Nurse Jackie, Boardwalk Empire and The Irishman. He has also received nominations from the Alliance of Women Film Journalists and Critics' Choice Television Awards.
In addition to acting on screen and stage, Cannavale has worked extensively as a voice performer. He voiced Corado R. "Babe" Ciarlo in Ken Burns' PBS documentary series The War and has provided voices for films and television series including The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, Ferdinand, Tom & Jerry, Sing 2, American Dad!, Robot Chicken, BoJack Horseman, Big Mouth, Human Resources, The Last Movie Stars and Under the Boardwalk. Since 2015, he has also participated in Playing On Air, a nonprofit organization that records short plays for public radio and podcasts, appearing in works including Crazy Eights, Mere Mortals and 2 Dads.
Cannavale has also narrated audiobooks, including Richard Price's Lush Life and Ed Falco's The Family Corleone.
