Sundog Theatre to Stage Existential Tragicomedy WAITING FOR GODOT

Sundog Theatre is pleased to announce this summer's acclaimed Samuel Beckett tragicomedy, WAITING FOR GODOT.

The show illustrates the endless search by the two lead characters, Vladimir and Estragon, for someone named Godot and their encounters along the way.

The six weekend performances (June 17-19, 2016 and June 24-26, 2016) will be held at Wagner College's Stage One Theatre, 631 Howard Avenue on Staten Island. Tickets are on sale now. For additional information, visit www.sundogtheatre.org.

"Rarely are there plays that have open-ended interpretations for the audience...that is the beauty of one like this", states Susan Fenley, executive director of Sundog Theatre and the play's producer. "It can hold a number of meanings. That is partly what theatre is about - an individual experience for each viewer based on his/her understandings and needs. I think of the Simon & Garfunkel song 'Dangling Conversation' as a bit of a musical parallel to Godot."

Mickey Tennenbaum directs the production. "It's every director's dream to work on a production of WAITING FOR GODOT," he says. "The trick is to keep the audience entertained (it is a comedy) and let them figure out what it all means."

Formed in 2002, Sundog Theatre focuses on original, contemporary, and thought provoking theatre in diverse venues; programs for schools; acting lessons for youth; and touring productions throughout the year.

Sundog Theatre offers theatre, visual arts, dance and music arts-based residencies for students from Kindergarten through high school in New York City's public and private schools and community-based organizations.

The company has produced shows that include favorites such as The Fantasticks, Roar of the Greasepaint..., Blood Brothers, Lovers & Other Strangers, Charlotte's Web, The 39 Steps, and A Christmas Carol as well as original pieces that include My Mariners--about the sailors at Snug Harbor, Once Upon a Mime-an original, full-length show without words, If You Could See: The Alice Austen Story--about the iconic Island photographer and pioneer, Meucci's Message--about Staten Islander Antonio Meucci's invention of the telephone, and its annual Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry. ABOUT THE CAST:

John Griffin appears as Estragon in Sundog's WAITING FOR GODOT. He last appeared for Sundog as Clown 2 in The 39 Steps. Previous Sundog credits include The Pagans, Blood Brothers, Lovers and Other Strangers, and the 2010 and 2013 versions of Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry. Recent credits include Booth in Assassins for Hemlock Theatre, and Julian in 42nd Street for In the Wings Theatre. He has also played the title roles in Jesus Christ Superstar; Sweeney Todd; Wizard of Oz; and Shrek as well as lead roles in Oliver; I Love You You're Perfect, Now Change; and Les Miserables.

Jack Dabdoub, plays Vladimir in WAITING FOR GODOT. He also appeared as the lead, Richard Hannay, in Sundog's 2013 production of The 39 Steps. Most recently seen as Samuel Byck in the Sondheim musical Assassins for Hemlock Theatre, Jack has appeared in dozens of Island productions over the years. Recent favorites include Guido Contini in Nine, Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest, and Roy Cohn in Angels in America: Perestroika, all for SeaView Playwright's Theatre. For the past seven years, Jack has appeared in the title role of Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol for SI Shakespearean Theatre at The Conference House. Jack also performs around NYC in the zombie punk cabaret band The Flesh Junkies with his wife Rina.

Mickey Tennenbaum directs WAITING FOR GODOT. He has been directing for several decades and also teaches and directs at Wagner College. Wagner directing credits include Spamalot; Damn Yankees; Loose Knit; and Catholic School Girls. Mickey has also directed Inherit the Wind; Biloxi Blues; Beyond Therapy; The Odd Couple; and La Boheme, among many other shows.
