(5/28/2012) - Cristina Fontanelli, the renowned soprano who recently made her fourth annual performance at the prestigious Feinstein’s at The Loews Regency and served as host for PBS television specials starring Andrea Bocelli ( “Live From Central Park”), Il Volo, the Vienna Boys Choir and the Qi ong specials, will perform a benefit concert for the Enrico Caruso Museum on Tuesday, June 5, at 8 PM at the Enrico Caruso Room at Grotta Azzurra Ristorante, 177 Mulberry Street, in historic Little Italy.

(5/28/2012) - Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, will lead the New York Philharmonic in Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 at the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, today, May 28, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. This will be the 21st Annual Free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance. The audio of the performance will be broadcast onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting.

(5/26/2012) - !!FreEpLaY!! is Strike Anywhere’s monthly improvised performance series at the Brecht Forum. The June show is the final show in SA’s 2011-2012 season. The evening features SA's interdisciplinary ensemble of world-class musicians, dancers, and actors spontaneously spinning performance pieces. Part performance, part creativity lab, the ensemble steps into the unknown, creating art in the moment, allowing intuition, the sounds of the room and audience suggestion to guide what they play. The ensemble is known for their use of Soundpainting, the sign language for conducted improvisation which allows a conductor/composer to sculpt an improvisation while it is in motion. The June show will feature the full ensemble in a series of improvisations, including a few Soundpaintings and there will be games and giveaways.

Queer New York International Arts Festival to Run 6/7-15
(5/24/2012) - Queer New York International Arts Festival (QNYI) is a new festival of contemporary performance and visual art that explores and broadens the concept of "queer (in) art." Co-curated by Zvonimir Dobrovi, artistic director of Queer Zagreb and the Perforations Festival in Croatia, and art historian and independent curator André von Ah, the festival aims to dispel preconceived and stereotyped notions of "queer," and provides a platform for expanding the discourse about artistic practices. The festival is presented in partnership with the Abrons Arts Center — QNYI's hub, with additional events presented at The Invisible Dog Art Center and The Impossible Project.
