Kentwood Players is delighted to announce auditions for our next Kentwood Kids Production, "Rockin' Robin Hood," an original musical written by Scott Martin, to be directed by Samantha Barrios, produced by Drew Fitzsimmons and Melodie S. Rivers with Martin Feldman as musical director.

Sideburns and ducktails invade Sherwood Forest as Robin Hood, his Merry Men, and the Sheriff of Nottingham, along with lots of assorted peasants and courtiers, meet the music of Elvis Presley. This musical melodrama promises to keep you cheering for the heroes and booing the villains as they sing songs of the 50’s in their own "Rockin' Robin Hood" style.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22 from 10:00am to 12:00 noon at the Westchester Playhouse, located two blocks west of the San Diego Freeway and two blocks north of Manchester at 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester, CA 90045.  Auditions are open to children ages 6-16 years old and will consist of cold-readings from the script and singing either your favorite pop/rock song or something short and simple such as “Happy Birthday,” “Jingle Bells,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” or “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” If you bring in something prepared, you will be able to sing a few bars acapella. Come ready to have fun and please bring your schedule and a photo of yourself to auditions. 

Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday 6:00pm to 8:30pm with rehearsals on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Not everyone will be needed at every rehearsal and the schedule will be based on cast availability.Performances will take place on Saturdays, October 6, 13, and 20 at 11:00am and 2:00pm at the Westchester Playhouse.

Friar Tuck –Robin Hood’s back-up singer (like Elvis’ The Jordanaires)

Sheriff of Nottingham – evil villain

Cudgle – Sheriff’s henchman

Bodkin – Sheriff’s henchman

Prince John – obnoxious royal person

Old Man – senile peasant

Victoria Masters – looks, moves, and sings like Connie Francis

Coral –Victoria’s back-up singer

Dot –Victoria’s back-up singer

Sister Kapp –Victoria’s back-up singer

Maid Marian – snobby, innocent young girl

Lucilla – Marian’s lady

Etheline – Marian’s lady

Peasants/Courtiers – mixed chorus

To meet the “Rockin’ Robin Hood” production team and learn more about Kentwood Players and what goes on at the Westchester Playhouse, the public is invited to attend our general membership meetings, which are free and held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Westchester Playhouse located two blocks west of the San Diego Freeway and two blocks north of Manchester at 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester, CA 90045. The next Kentwood Players general membership meeting is on Wednesday, July 18 at 8pm. Beginning Wednesday, August 15, the monthly meetings will start at 7:30pm.
