ORCHID is a new burlesque/cabaret/circus show that is infused with fashion, popular music and innovative circus and dance performances in a highly immersive and sensory environment. Orchid, the lead character, will take the audience on a journey through a world of fantasies and desires that are much closer and more real than one would think. Draws upon Inspiration from traditional burlesque, Berlin cabaret, the original Bettie Page and Gypsy Rose Lee to Madonna, Lady Gaga, and other popular music stars, as well as the likes of Moulin Rouge and other European Variety traditions, the films of Fellini, and Cirque du Soleil. Looking for interesting people with unusual talents that can be utilized either as individual acts or in group numbers.

PRODUCER’S STATEMENT: To a large extent, the characters will be shaped based on the performers who are cast. The character descriptions below are IDEAL guidelines. We are interested in seeing dynamic, sexy, interesting performers of all types.

PLEASE NOTE: NUDITY IS NOT REQUIRED; however, this is a very sexy show utilizing traditional burlesque-inspired costuming, which can lead to partial nudity, bare behinds, and breasts (with ornate costumed pasties).

Seeking:

ORCHID: Female, 18-30. Lead. Any race. Singer/Dancer/Performer. Possesses a rare, fragile and delicate vulnerability and graceful sexuality. Exotically beautiful but likeable and warm. Petite, beautiful physique. Hypnotic and seductive. Strong and versatile pop voice. Strong dance training, pointe a major plus. Must be comfortable with burlesque-inspired costumes and partial nudity (bare behind and breasts with pasties). Possibly a burlesque performer with an act (fan dance/bubble act etc.).

THE MASTER GARDENER: Male lead. 30-50. Any race. Master of ceremonies of his own Garden of Eden. Perverse and darkly comic. Mercurial. Hauntingly sad and melancholic, he is a master of the torch song. Slightly twisted. Not a 'drag queen' but an androgynous, dark, mysterious character. He has a great sadness behind his eyes and plays a social outcast, who has exiled himself from society to live in a garden world of his creation. A social misfit, he prefers the company of flowers and plants to human beings. Part Mrs. Havisham, part Dr. Frankenstein part Michael Jackson, 'the man with the child in his eyes'. Tim Burton-esque character. Improv skills a plus.

FLOWER GIRLS: Female singers and dancers with burlesque skills. Ages 20-40. Any race. Must have strong dance skills and strong voices. Ability to dance en pointe a plus. Comic, unique performers that must be comfortable in an ensemble as well as soloists. Actual character names will be determined after casting so the character fits the personality. The flower girls are the master gardener's previous attempts at creating the perfect flower. They are all narcissistic and bitchy and constantly battle for their creator, the MASTER GARDENER’s, attentions. Fiercely vampy, sassy, sexy. Should have a 1950's pin-up girl look. Must be comfortable with burlesque-inspired costumes and partial nudity (bare behind and breasts with pasties).

THE BEEKEEPER: Male, 20-30 Actor/Singer. Strong pop voice. Any race. Drop-dead gorgeous, sexy, must appeal to both men and women across the sexuality spectrum. Must be in amazing shape and have a gorgeous body and love showing it off. Good mover or dancer. Acro, circus, burlesque, and/or striptease skills a plus. Handsome, sensitive and masculine, but not 'cheesy.’ Must be comfortable with burlesque-inspired costuming (down to a G-string).

MALE SWING: One male 20s-40s to cover THE BEEKEEPER and THE GARDENER (see character descriptions above).

FEMALE SWING: One female 20s-30s to cover ORCHID and THE FLOWER GIRLS (see character descriptions above).
