SOUTHERN REP ANNOUNCES OPEN AUDITIONS FOR

NEXT TO NORMAL WITH BOOK AND LYRICS BY BRIAN YORKEY AND MUSIC BY TOM KITT

Southern Rep Theatre will be holding open auditions for NEXT TO NORMAL, Thursday January 17, 2013 from 5pm-8pm at the Contemporary Arts Center. Performed at the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans, NEXT TO NORMAL will run May 15-June 9.

A heartbreaking but beautifully told story about a suburban mother's fight with mental illness and her family's attempt to hold it all together for her and themselves. With an exciting contemporary score and thrilling lyrics, this prize-winning musical strives to understand what "normal" means in an unknowable, complicated world.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

For the role of GABE:

Almost Eighteen, Dashing. Gentle. Bright. Playful. Everything a mother, etc.

For the role of NATALIE:

Sixteen and trying to be perfect. It's not going well.

For the role of HENRY:

Seventeen. Musician, romantic, stoner, slacker, philosopher king.

For the role of DOCTOR MADDEN:

On the young side of ageless. Assured. A rock star.

The roles of DAN and DIANA have been cast.

AUDITION SCHEDULE & LOCATION:

Thursday, January 17, 5pm-8pm: OPEN CALL

Saturday, January 19, 11am-3pm: CALLBACKS

Location: Rehearsal Hall, Contemporary Arts Center, 900 Camp St, New Orleans LA.

PARKING: Curbside, metered parking is availble on nearby streets (FREE on Sundays, holidays, and everyday after 6pm). Parking is also available in nearby Premium Parking lots.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Audition sides will be provided. Actors should bring a headshot and résumé. Auditioners should prepare 32 bars (about a minute) of a rock or pop song in the style of the production. Need to bring sheet music that can be played by accompanist. You will not be able to sing with a recorded accompaniment or a cappella.

NEXT TO NORMAL will have it's first preview on May 15th and run through June 9th. The first rehearsal will be held on April 16th with meetings beforehand for musical preparation.

PERFORMANCE DATES: NEXT TO NORMAL First preview will be May 15th. The opening will be on May 18th and will run through June 9th

Performances will be held at the CAC, 900 Camp Street, New Orleans.
