Earlier this month, BlogHer 2012, the world’s largest female blogging conference, brought some of the biggest influencers in the blogosphere to New York, inviting them to tweet and post about everything they experienced. It was a unique opportunity for Broadway to show itself off to the rest of the nation (and the world), and for folks back home to follow their cyber best friend on her Big Apple adventure.
During BlogHer, MamaDrama bloggers attended performances of Porgy and Bess, Ghost, Avenue Q, Spider-Man Turn off the Dark and End of the Rainbow. They’ll be tweeting and posting about their experiences, sharing the love with their sizeable followings back home and helping to build some out of town buzz for our beloved Broadway. Here’s what some of them had to say:
GoodEnoughMother.com on Porgy and Bess: “As any parent who has been to a school play or any performance knows, there are times when you applaud. You do it to show your appreciation for the work the actors put into the performance….There is (another spoiler alert) a place in the play where Crown comes back for Bess and it is implied that he rapes her. Now, one, it takes real talent to perform a rape on stage while singing beautifully. But, two, we as an audience clapped afterwards. I thought that was so wildly weird.” MORE
JusticeFergie.com on End of the Rainbow: “The first highlight of my Manhattan jaunt was a Broadway show! It’s been way too long since I’ve gotten my musical theatre fix. I used to be a theatre junkie and didn’t go a few months without seeing a production. These days, though, I’m caught up in the Mom Matrix and my typical live entertainment experiences include shows like Moona Luna (saw them last week).” MORE
DaytoDayMoments.com on Avenue Q: "Right away there was a "Sesame Street" feel to the play, my husband actually asked "is this for kids?" in the very beginning, but we both quickly learned it wasn't." MORE
