On July 22nd & 23rd, The Vagrancy invites you to staged readings of 4 original plays developed by The Vagrancy's Writer's Group. Come be inspired, have a glass of wine, and participate in the incredibly helpful audience talk-balks.

SATURDAY, JULY 22nd

1:00 PM: PLAY #1 Mercy Station by Abbey Fenbert; directed by Darcie Crager. Featuring Vaneh Assadourian, Kiki Milner, Jessica Lynn Parsons, Lisa Deily, Heidi Shon, Rebecca Everhart, Alfredo Trueba, Zachariah Ziegler, and Cassidy Davis.

Synopsis: At the outskirts of the Established Hospitable Zones, there is a station. Inside, the competitors, Hawk, Dip and Pigeon, fight for the Big Prize. The Elders tally their points and a Smuggler brings news from the station across the street, which wants to go to war.

And as they fight, and tally, and war, the Fool watches.

Mercy Station is a violent, absurd and probing piece about the costs of both knowledge and ignorance, and the distorted forms our longings take when the world does not make room for our better selves

4:00 PM: PLAY #2 Disappointment Island by Howard Ho; directed by David Mancini. Featuring David Huynh, Justin Huen, Cathy Tomlin, Karen Zumsteg, Ken Narasaki, Marta Portillo, and Annalyn Frame.

Synopsis: A crackpot Chinese billionaire dies leaving behind a joint trust fund to his two sons, one Chinese American wannabe rapper and one illegitimate Chinese Mexican never-do-well. Trouble is, the inheritance comes with offensive strings attached. Will the brothers follow the money or their hearts?

SUNDAY, JULY 23rd

1:00 PM: PLAY #3 The Ocean Deep by Katherine Vondy; directed by Miranda Stewart. Featuring Maria Libel, Susan-Kate Heaney Kelly, Cassidy Davis, Nicolette Acosta, Katherine Flannery, Annalyn Frame, Anika Vaughn, and Danielle Gonzales.


Synopsis: Doris, a marine biologist, is struggling to start a new research project-until her best friend Marie shows up for an unexpected visit. With Marie's help, Doris begins to concentrate her work one of the most interesting specimens in her lab. But with her attention focused on the secrets of her prized dragonfish, Doris fails to realize that Marie has a number of dark secrets of her own. And as these secrets break down the boundaries between who is being studied and who is doing the studying, Doris and Marie start to realize the specimen that's truly under the microscope is their friendship.

4:00 PM: PLAY #4 Young Dumb Broke High School Kids by Nicholas Pilapil; directed by Arthur Keng. Featuring Erica Ibsen, Nicky Romaniello, Nayeli Aborado-Knudsen, and Nicolette Acosta

Synopsis: Life really sucks for high school kids Bliss, Olivia, and Miles. After a one-time fuck Bliss gets knocked up and kicked out, Olivia has stupidly fallen in love with someone who'll never love her back, and Miles is an orphan who will do anything to be part of a family. They're pregnant, closeted, abused, unloved, and together they try to sort out their lives in the most dangerous ways.
