WFUV's John Platt returns to the Jeanne Rimsky Theater for his annual On Your Radar event on Saturday, February 4 at 8 PM. This year he's selected two up-and-coming acts, each comprised of performers whose talents are sure to make them headliners in their own right.
The trio of Cole Nakoa & Treacher joins the forces of three of the most soulful and engaging performers in the singer/songwriter world today. Brad Cole, Matt Nakoa and Robinson Treacher weave their music, lyricism and inspiration to cultivate a live experience that is as undeniably unique as it is powerful. Richard Cuccaro, Acoustic Live magazine, credits the trio with "bedrock roots power ... overall killer chops. a must-see!"
Birds of Chicago, the collective centered around Allison Russell and JT Nero, reassert the simple notion that beautiful words and music can still tap deep veins of emotion.
The Birds draw heavily on the gospel tradition and the music feels like a new, secular gospel of sorts. For Birds of Chicago, every word counts. Every note counts. No gold-dusting, no filler. Music is the good news and Real Midnight, the band's poignant new Joe Henry produced album, throbs with an urgency that feels quietly seismic.
John Platt, long time radio host at Fordham University's WFUV Public Radio, currently hosts WFUV's Sunday Supper program, which features theme sets, artist salutes and artist interviews. He's also highly visible hosting concerts throughout the metropolitan area, including On Your Radar, a monthly showcase for emerging artists, and the recent John Lennon Tribute concert.
