Editorial Content Manager - New York City Center

LISTING INFORMATION

New York City Center is seeking a skilled Editorial Content Manager who possesses a solid track record of championing an institutional brand’s voice through compelling content. The Editorial Content Manager generates and executes marketing ideas that find connections between the works on stage and City Center’s distinct audiences. This Manager is responsible for end-to-end delivery of motivating marketing and development content and copy. The Manager will possess and convey insights and a strategic understanding of musical theater and dance that effectively translates to an audience-forward style that engages new and existing audiences/donors to City Center. The position will report to the VP, Marketing & Communications.





Job Responsibilities Include:

• Generate compelling content that reinforces the singularity of the City Center brand through clear, motivating language that imbues a small number of words with a great amount of impact

• Collaborate with peers to develop content and copy for all marketing channels including print (brochures, mail pieces), emails, newsletters, social media, video, web pages, etc.

• Rigorously research artists and musical theater and dance performances to inform others in the institution and to ultimately craft convincing narratives

• Diligent copyediting 

• Resource for copy creation and copy editing for Development including membership appeals, campaigns, executive communications, etc.

• Research, develop, commission, and edit monthly Playbill editorial books, including assigning writers, scheduling interviews, collecting photos, liaising with Production Artist on layout, and securing final approvals  

• Work with team members to find ways to reuse and leverage content across various channels

• An open and responsive attitude to email metrics that drives better creative based on understanding motivations and behaviors of different target segments

• Work in collaboration with Digital Marketing Manager and Website Manager to ensure all web copy is compelling and up to date  

• Work in collaboration with Production Artist/Designer to locate and license images for all publications and webpages 

• Actively contribute and create original written content for City Center’s blog and assist Digital Marketing Manager with content for social media channels 

• Assist the Director of Communications by copy editing press releases and other editorial/advertorial material (i.e. Playbill), assist with press events and distribution of press tickets 

• Regularly attend City Center events and performances  







Qualified Applicants Must Possess:

• 6+ years of written content creation and editorial writing

• Bachelor’s degree and/or additional professional development related to the field

• Cultural institution and/or performing arts background

• Previous experience developing and/or contributing to articulating a brand voice

• Adaptability and versatility to write in different styles and for a variety of audiences

• A masterful command of English, with a crisp active voice writing

• Ability to identify new ideas and take them from start to finish

• Expert copyediting skills

• Ability to think creatively and collaborate effectively 

• Ability to uphold brand standards while fulfilling requests in a timely manner

• Ability to handle numerous projects in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to meet deadlines and remain within specified budget

• Ability to absorb and apply constructive criticism
