SYNOPSIS: Two North Korean sisters make a bargain with a smuggler to flee to the United States. When one of the sisters is denied passage to make the treacherous transpacific crossing, the other races across time and space to save her.
Seeking:
YUNA
(East Asian female, early 30s) North Korean citizen devoted to her sister Minjee, her sole-surviving relative. Observant of the power dynamics and senseless patterns in her community and country as a whole, but keeps her questions to herself. She is a survivor, and ready and willing to fight for survival.
MINJEE
(East Asian female, early 30s) North Korean citizen whose baby died of malnutrition and husband was sent to the gulag. She believes in the benevolence of the government. A survivor that operates according to the notion that obedienceto the powers-that-be is the key to survival.
TIFFANY
(American female, any ethnicity, late 30s-50s) Representing the many faces of the U.S. that may be encountered in NYC, the actor will play multiple distinct people. Must be able to talk fast.
SMUGGLER
(East Asian male, mid-20s-60s) Man from North Korea, a somewhat ordinary man who is surviving by working with larger, darker forces (eg, oppressive power, greed), but is not in control of them.
DOCTOR/HUSBAND/SALESPERSON
(East Asian male, mid-30s or older) DOCTOR is a well-placed Korean in the countryside, the smiling face of the corrupt nonsense and power of the NK regime, speaking propoganda on cue but has no real idea what he's doing. HUSBAND is devoted to his wife and family, knows his wife is dying and hopes that modern medicine will give them more time together. SALESPERSON is a slick cellphone aficionado and very effective sales rep. The cellphones are more interesting to him than people.
MAN FROM THE SOUTH
(African American male, mid-30s) Not your conventional"leading man" type. From the American South, empathetic, warm, and vulnerable. A fish out of water in NYC, overwhelmed by the city but more excited than scared. Humble but confident.
