“With Aaron's Arms Around Me” portrays love as a universal theater; where ultimately, love either rules or loses its right to the throne. We follow the creative evolution of two aspiring writers, one a Jamaican émigré and the other, a Russian Jewish émigré. As they sit together in a classroom, in the midst of an interview (an assignment for a dramatic writing class); they become better friends, share the hardships of love and being young and very much alive. This play deals with the theme that love has no borders, no boundaries, no space, no time; it adheres to no known laws of creed, color, age, sex, or religion--and it is, in the end, a universal feeling. Madeleine deals with an inter-racial relationship. Tanya tackles a religious issue within her relationship with her fiancée. Will love burn eternally even through the harshest stakes set by the rules of society?
Seeking the following role only:
Madeleine Campbell:
Black female, 21 years old. Tall, lean and very poised. She is an émigré from Jamaica. She is a student in the Dramatic Writing Program at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. Madeleine is in love with her classmate, Aaron Kaplan, who is Jewish. She suffers angst at the hands of both their families and some of their close friends. Although, it should be noted that this is not a tale from Verona; and their love story is certainly unlike that of Romeo and Juliet.
