Callbacks: 3/10, 3/13, 3/14
Seeking strong singer actors. Convincing British accents required for all roles.
Mary:
Female, 10-14 (to believably play 10 years old). An ill-tempered, lonely girl, who slowly lets down her guard as she discovers the power of friendship and nature. Determined, intelligent, poised. Child Mezzo.
Archibald:
Male, late 30s. A sad, reclusive hunchback, on the verge of emotional collapse. His solemn mood is what makes him ugly, otherwise he would be a rather handsome man. Tenor.
Lily:
Female, early 30s. Radiantly beautiful, with an ethereal, other-worldly presence, she is Archibald’s dead wife, now haunting him after death. Passionate and loving. Lyric Soprano.
Neville:
Male, 30s. A bitter, emotionally hollow man, who was deeply in love with his brother’s wife. Stern, calculating and cold. Baritone.
Colin:
Male, 10-14 (to believably play 10 years old). A thin, bed-ridden child. Capable of extreme outbursts, as well as genuine wonder and kindness. Boy Soprano.
Dickon:
Male, 20s. Charismatic, deeply connected to nature. Spiritual, mysterious, trustworthy and playful. Convincing Yorkshire accent required. High tenor.
Martha:
Female, 20s. Mary’s maid. Salt of the earth—practical, fun-loving and supportive. Convincing Yorkshire accent required. Mezzo-Belter.
Ben:
Male, 60s. The elderly gardener, gruff and cantankerous, though capable of kindness. Character baritone. Doubles as a Lieutenant in India.
Albert:
Male, 30s. Mary’s father, a Captain in the British army. Sturdy and steadfast, capable of tenderness. Tenor.
Rose:
Female, 30s. Mary’s mother, beautiful and haughty, but also capable of tenderness. Mezzo-Soprano.
Fakir:
Male, 20s-50s, to portray Indian. A mystic. High tenor with strong falsetto.
Ayah:
Female, 20s-50s, to portray Indian. Mary’s nanny from India. Mezzo-Soprano.
Major Holmes, Lt. Wright & Lt. Shaw:
3 Males, 20s-50s. Officers in British Colonial India. Looking for a strong Bass, Baritone and Tenor.
Claire & Alice:
2 Females, 20s-50s. Wives of the officers. Looking for a strong Mezzo and Soprano.
NON-SINGING ROLES:
Mrs. Medlock:
Female, 40s-50s. Archibald’s loyal housekeeper. Serious, stern, seemingly devoid of joy.
Servants/Supporting Cast:
Men & Women, 20s-50s, to play the servants of Misselthwaite Manor, as well as a variety of small speaking roles (Major & Mrs. Shelley, William, Mrs. Winthrop, Nurse, Jane).
