Chronicles the incredibly true story of “two short Jews who write musical comedy” as they travel to the Middle East to write a new American musical commissioned by some suspect characters. Equal parts broad musical comedy and Crosby-Hope road picture.

Seeking (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted)):

Theatre’s casting note: “All actors must be very inventive comedic actors, with strong singing voices.”

Michael:

Jewish man, mid 30s. Short. Musical comedy writer. Lyricist/librettist/ghostwriter of celebrity bios. The “Oscar” of “The Odd Couple” dynamic of this writing partnership. Charismatic, big personality with a sharp sense of humor. Excellent comedic chops. Strong character baritenor.

Jeffrey:

Jewish man, mid 30s. Short. Musical comedy writer. Composer/dance-music arranger with a floundering, about-to-close-any-minute-now Broadway show. Appealing but neurotic; the “Felix” of “The Odd Couple” dynamic. Very much under the influence of his overbearing mother, but comes into his own abroad. Excellent comedic chops. Strong character baritenor.

Nazirah / Others:

Nazirah: Lebanese woman, 20 - late 30s. Dim-witted interpreter. Immediately likable and alternately adorable, sexy, pushy, excitable and sweet. Not very bright, but means well. Actress also plays other characters. Strong comedic role. Belter/soprano.

Mansour / Others:

Mansour: Egyptian man, 40s-60s. Blowhard theatre producer. Imposing presence. Big in spirit. Lovable, but clueless when it comes to theatre. Excellent comedic chops. Actor also plays other characters. Baritone.

Farid / Claudio / Others:

Farid: Man, 35-45. A Middle Eastern Sly Stallone. At first glance, he looks like a scary terrorist, but he is really an egocentric actor who aspires to write. Claudio: Flamboyant and equally ridiculous opera director. Role requires a strong comedic actor. Actor also plays other characters. Baritone or tenor.
