Breakdown
THE OLD FRIENDS: Matriarch Mamie Borden and the remaining members of two longtime Texas farming families await a visit from Mamie's son Hugo and his wife Sybil. When Sybil arrives with alarming news, old friends on opposing sides must confront the issues surrounding legacy, loyalty, and the meaning of happiness that have hounded them for generations.
SEEKING (Four roles have been cast; see below):
ALBERT PRICE: Male--mid 40’s to mid 50’s. Large, overfed, a bit of a petulant child. Married to Julia, he would like to have some stability/normalcy in their marriage, but he lost that years ago. A time bomb waiting to go off…
HOWARD RATLIFF: Male—50’s to early 60’s. Handsome, a gentleman farmer. In love with Sibyl, but lost her 20 years ago. He has learned how to play the ladies since, to his own advantage, especially Gertrude.
TOM UNDERWOOD: Male--late 20's to late 30's Young, handsome, son of friends of the family. Having an affair with Julia, and possibly Gertrude.
HATTIE: Female—50’s to 70’s, African-American. Works for Albert and Julia.
CATHERINE: Female—30’s to 40’s, African-American. Works for Gertrude.
The following roles have been CAST. Actors may be considered for possible replacements:
SIBYL: [CAST] Female—50’s, natural and unaffected.
GERTRUDE: [CAST] Female—50’s to 60’s, loud and wealthy. A heavy and constant drinker.
MAMIE: [CAST] Female—70’s to 80’s. Small and wizened. A hard worker all her life, she now seems spent and purposeless.
JULIA: [CAST] Female—40’s to 50’s. Works hard to appear young and attractive, but only achieves a certain hardness.
