ATTN: LIAR / AEA submission
Dorante:
25-33. Handsome, even dashing young leading man. A compulsive and very creative liar. A romantic if a bit fickle. Very charming, almost innocent of the havoc caused by his lies—but we like him anyway. Actor must be gifted in comedy and be very accomplished with verse and language.
Alcippe:
25-32 Handsome, young leading man from a wealthy family. He is comically—and insanely—a jealous about his fiancé, Clarice. Prone to outbursts of temper and accusation—all of which are wrong-headed but amusing. Actor must me gifted in comedy and be very accomplished with verse and language.
Philiste:
28-35. Handsome, young leading man from an aristocrat family. He is the very picture of a marriageable young aristocrat—sophisticated, wealthy, urbane. The voice of reason in the play—but ultimately I love (and lust) with a Puritanical servant (who may have a taste for S&M). Actor must be gifted in comedy and be very accomplished with verse and language.
Clarice:
25-30. BEAUTIFUL, YOUNG LEADING LADY, Witty, confident, passionate, and strong, Clarice is impatient with her long-term fiancé, so she’s not averse to contemplating other options. Knowing, clever, adventurous, she’s a star of the social scene in Paris. Actor must be gifted in comedy and be very accomplished with verse and language.
Lucrece:
25-30. Beautiful, but in a less conventional way. Young leading lady. Lucrece is very smart, well-read (lots of romance novels and plays), comically insecure (thinks incorrectly that she’s less attractive than her friend Clarice), often shy in the presence of men, but there’s a LOT of passion and feeling underneath the surface, comically neurotic. Actor must be gifted in comedy and be very accomplished with verse and language.
