- These Cumberland MD auditions will be the only auditions for this production.
- Housing, consisting of a private room in a Theatre-owned house with shared bathrooms and kitchen, is provided for out of town performers.
Jack Worthing:
Cecily’s guardian, and friend of Algernon. In love with Gwendolyn. Serious, conventional, responsible, respectable and honorable, yet uses fictional brother Earnest to escape the country.
Algernon Moncrieff:
Friend of Jack, nephew of Lady Bracknell, cousin of Gwendolyn. Falls in love with Cecily.
Arguable, clever, witty, artistic. Uses “Bunbury” as a way to escape tedious social gatherings.
Gwendolen:
Daughter of Lady Bracknell. Intellectual, artificial, fashionable, pretentious, strong-minded. In love with Jack, whom she thinks is Earnest. Obsessed with the name “Earnest”.
Cecily:
Jack’s ward. Youthful, earthy, dreamy, imaginative. Obsessed with Uncle Jack’s “wicked” brother Earnest, and the name “Earnest”.
Miss Prism:
Cecily’s governess. Pedantic, rigid, moral, educated. Critical of Jack’s brother Earnest, approving of Jack. Romantic feelings for Dr. Chasuble.
Rev. Chasuble:
Rector of Woolton. Representative of the church and religion. Strong feelings for Miss Prism.
The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.
Lane / Merriman:
CAST. Lane: Algernon’s servant. Very dry, straight, witty. Merriman: Jack’s butler at the Manor House.
Lady Bracknell:
CAST.
