The Hound Of The Baskervilles is a comic retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Sherlock Holmes tale as performed by a traveling troupe of actors determined to portray all of the characters in the sprawling epic. While the actors deliver a remarkably complete rendition of the story, they battle through the complications that come with any acting company, particularly one this small, competitive, joyous and determined. The play is a love letter to the theatre and to the tradition of theatrical companies. The production demands three actors with impeccable comic timing and who are physically agile and inventive. The actors play both genders, many ages and must switch costumes and accents with lightning quick precision. No matter what character they are playing, of course, at heart they are informed by the relationship between the actors playing them. Actors with clown and dance training are preferred. Actors with experience at slight of hand or magic are also of extreme interest. All ethnicities, sizes and types welcome!
Seeking:
Javier/Holmes: 30-50, an esteemed actor, miscast as Holmes but determined to be the iconic detective. His fiery temper bleeds through to the other characters he plays. He is hot headed and ridiculously passionate about this evening's performance. His ego is easily bruised and intrudes upon his professionalism at times
Jason/Sir Henry: 25-40, British. A master of disguises, he is perhaps, the most consummate actor of this small troupe, fearless and agile. Nothing can stand in the way of his getting through this play. He has a light and cheery, wonderfully inventive energy born of thousands of unappreciated performances.
John/Watson: 40s British. Slightly vain and a bit battered by his career in the theatre, not quite as bright as his colleagues. The lines between acting and surviving the play are not always clear to him. He believes he is the lead.
