2006 NYMF award for Best Musical. Story takes place in and around the famed Moulin Rouge of late 19th-Century Paris. Follows the rise and fall of acclaimed performer Joseph Pujol, who made a name for himself through the use of an odd physical defect that allowed him to pass gas at will. Through his own determination and perseverance as an artist, the play follows Pujol as he uses his defect to better himself, his family and the lives of Moulin Rouge patrons. Seeing himself as a true artist, Pujol steers through and around various obstacles that come his way, whether they be passionate women, domineering managers, or his own inner demons. Pujol stands by his talent, and gets to take the risks that many artists only wish they could.
