CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

OVERALL VOCAL: Contemporary musical theatre, NOT pop/rock.

KAREN: Early to mid-30s. Karen is originally from the midwest and maintains the openness and sense of optimism that goes hand in hand with her upbringing although lately she is finding it more and more difficult to keep her sunny side up. She is still single and seems to go on one disastrous date after another. She is longing for something but is not quite sure what...is it a boyfriend? A baby? A return to her rapidly disappearing youth? She is the caregiver of the group and throws a mean dinner party. A bit of a control freak she doesn't do well with sudden changes in her well scripted and thought out plans.
Vocal range: Strong contemporary musical theatre mix. Solid mezzo. Strong mix to D. Needs legit G.

KATE: Early 30s. Kate is a bit of an oddball but totally endearing. She has her very own distinctive sense of style and is as apt to change her hair color as frequently as her mind. She is fiercely loyal and a steadfast and loving friend. Her best laid plans are often sent out of orbit but she tends to take it all in stride. She also has very vivid and rather insightful dreams and premonitions. There is a childlike innocence and sense of wonder about her which at times can be irresistible and at others totally frustrating.
Vocal range: Contemporary musical theatre belt/mix. Belt to D flat.

BEV: Early to mid-30s. Bev is a career woman, driven and focused. She adores her job and the challenges it presents. Her earlier prettiness has hardened a bit with her physical appearance usually taking a back seat to whatever work issues she is currently consumed with. All of her relationships, with friends, family and her husband have suffered from her absences. She is now at a bit of a crossroads having realized that her life is not all that she wants it to be but unsure how to correct it. She has trouble showing the strength which she so easily wields in her day to day work life in her personal life. A bit of a prude, she is always the last in the room to get the joke.
Vocal range: Strong contemporary musical theatre mix to D.

SAM: Early to mid-30s. Sam is charming, successful and comfortably gay. He has gotten through life with a smile and dimples. Things come easy to him and people are naturally attracted to him. He's very used to getting what he wants and rarely hears the word"no". He makes a more than comfortable living and spends a lot on himself and his friends. He doesn't do well with anyone finding fault with him or questioning his choices or actions and his temper and tongue can be quick to fly. Although at times he can be very immature and runs from responsibilities he is a wonderful listener and a great friend.
Vocal range: Contemporary musical theatre Baritone to G.

ZACH: Early to mid-30s. Zach is a fine example of still water that runs deep. Usually quiet and reserved he tends to keep to himself and has difficulty expressing how he feels in words. His frustration with his life, his work and his wife are beginning to be more difficult to keep hidden. He tends to deal with aggravations and problems in passive/aggressive ways. Not one to joke or look on the bright side his smile makes fewer and fewer appearances these days. He doesn't sleep well.
Vocal range: Contemporary musical theatre. Strong Baritone to G.

JOEY: 21. Joey is sarcastic, amazingly bright and confident and totally appealing. He is also gay although not bitchy or feminine at all but rather boyish and quite handsome. His straight-forwardness and inability to hold his tongue or hide his feelings can be a bit off-putting at first but given a chance he invariably wins everyone over with his charm and wit. His bravado and strength act as his armor and if one could get close enough to scratch the surface a sweet and quite vulnerable soul lie just beneath.
Vocal range: Contemporary musical theatre. High Baritone with a solid G. Excellent musician with a good ear.
