Notes: ALL ACTORS MUST HAVE VALID PASSPORTS! The play is set on the island of Inishmaan in 1934. ALL ACTORS MUST BE NATIVE IRISH OR HAVE AUTHENTIC IRISH INISHMEAIN ACCENTS, AND BE ABLE TO BLEND WITH A NATIVE IRISH COMPANY.
Doctor:
AVAILABLE. Man, 50s. Country doctor. Educated, but frustrated with his patients’ refusal to follow even the simplest of instructions. Funny, bemused.
Mammy:
AVAILABLE. Character is a 90-year-old woman. Actress must be able to play this age believably. Mammy is Johnny's mother, an old peasant. Appears frail, but is indestructible. Drinks like a fish. Cantankerous; classic McDonagh character, with a vicious wit and devoid of sympathy. Funny and unrelenting. ACTRESS MUST BE PHYSICALLY FIT AND ABLE TO WITHSTAND A RIGOROUS TOURING SCHEDULE.
