RE: COMEDY(role) / AEA Self Submission

Submission is by U.S. mail only. Absolutely no emails, phone calls or Office visits/drop off's!

Be sure to put the title of the show and the role you're interested in on the front of the envelope.

NOTE: This production of The Comedy of Errors will be set in 1930's New Orleans at Mardi Gras time. The script is mostly in tact; what's added is a lot of gospel, traditional hymns, and Dixieland music. The action builds to an outlandish chase scene in which many iconic Southern figures from all time periods begin to show up in lightning-fast cameo appearances. This is farce with a heart. . . ultimately a play about reunion and reconciliation, with plenty of madcap mayhem along the way. We are only looking for the following two roles. Actors can be any race or ethnicity.

SEEKING:

Egeon:

Late 40s to late 50s/early 60s; a Merchant of Syracuse and father to the twin Antipholi; excellent verse skills; needs to sing; should have a wacky streak. Appears throughout the production, always telling his story to some new, unsuspecting Mardi Gras reveler, as he tries to obtain the ransom money that will spare his life.

Emilia:

An Abbess living in Ephesus, and the long-lost mother to the twin Antipholi; late 40s to late 50s/early 60s; excellent verse skills; great gospel singer (race is not an issue); able to be fierce and tender. Should also have excellent comic instincts

Revised 10/20/11: Now Also seeking:

Solinus, Duke of Ephesus:

30 - 50. An aristocrat with a bit of a twist. Sense of authority, stature, and command, but not without empathy and enough heart to bend the law a bit in Egeon's direction. Excellent language skills; good singer. Does a brief Louis Armstrong impersonation in the chase sequence
