CELIE
African-American female, 20s-early 30s - Soprano with Belt. Starring role, drives the story. Vulnerable, spirited, introverted, mischievous, seemingly passive but really not, has a deep, hard soul, believes that she is ugly, has a sense of humor which is sometimes wicked. She is an observer. Needs a great belt singing voice with lots of soul.
NOTE: Mercury Theater Chicago is an intimate jewel box of a theater, located in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. Now producing a season of four shows, the Mercury Theater has become the largest producer of musicals in Chicago.
